VW Polo 1000 2014

Post by Reggie_Flint »

Morning

The battery of my sons Up regularly drains and we have to jump start it.
A cause is likley to be associated with the fact that the rear taillight often stays on and is hard to turn off. once we get it to go off we check that everything else that can be switched off is , however to no effect.

any help would be appreciated!

How come the rear tail light is staying on? If its a faulty switch or indicator stalk, you are best to get that replaced as it could be the root cause of the issue

Initial thoughts are:
As Alex suggests you need to check the reason that the taillight is difficult to turn off - an intermittent wiring fault or faulty switch as you suggest could be the cause.
If you know a friend with fault finding software get a scan for any faults - VW dealers charge about £60 so if necessary go to an independent garage.
Have you had the battery checked to ensure it holds its charge - not unheard of for batteries to fail early if regularly let to discharge? You can usually find someone to get a free check.
Have you checked that any interior boot light goes off?
Have you changed the radio as a different radio from standard can cause a battery drain?
Was the car bought from new? If not the battery may have been changed so check the date on the battery.

Best of luck.

All
just realised that i actually own a VW UP 2012, not a Polo (you can see why I need help!)
thanks for the advice, which i would have is still applicable - i'll check all the items you suggest and see if it improves.
