HELP!!!! HELP!!! Engine failure
Hi all,
I've got a 2014 VW Polo 1.2 petrol with 38k miles. Full service history with VW and Independant.
I parked the car up on the driveway after being out to the shops and everything was normal.
I came back out of the house and went to start the car up and it wouldn't start just clicking.
I got the AA out and they said the engine had locked up and needed to go to a garage for a second opinion.
So I got the car trailered to the garage and they confirm by trying to turn the engine over by hand that it would only turn half a stroke.
They advised me to take it to a VW main dealer and try and get some help with it..... here's the damage they say it had caused even though the car never started!!!!

Bump!
I'm not sure but you might need to have made a certain minimum number of postings before being allowed to post pictures, someone that knows more will no doubt help you, I'm just bringing this back up to the top!

pop your images up on img.ur and copy the URLs for the JPGs into here. We don't have photo hosting on the forum at present.

Re: HELP!!!! HELP!!! Engine failure
You’ll need to use a photo hosting site such as Flickr or Postimage (I use Postimage - web address; http://postimages.org ). Many members on various forums used to use Photobucket, but it’s no longer a free to use site for posting images onto forums.
Upload your photos to the hosting site and then copy the link for each of the pictures you want to post on the forum. If you use Postimage, it’s the ‘hotlink for forums’ one that you need. Paste the copied link for your photos into your post on this forum, and your pictures will be displayed.

Re: HELP!!!! HELP!!! Engine failure
Here's the link to the photos sent to me by the dealer.
Remember I never started the car because when I turned the key it just clicked so obviously the engine didn't turn over!!!!
I Think VW have a lot of explaining to do.
In my option I think they've timed the engine back up and started the car and then this!

Re: HELP!!!! HELP!!! Engine failure
That’s some pretty serious head damage.
This looks like the timing chain has jumped (very common on these engines - there was a recall from VW for certain chassis numbers) and the pistons have hit the valves
That engine is toast. You’ll need a new block. At bare minimum a new head but the pistons don’t look too great

Re: HELP!!!! HELP!!! Engine failure
The argument I'm having with VW as I'm an engineer is that no way I have caused this damage.
The car NEVER turned over not once. There was no noise whatsoever.
VW admitted they did re time the engine....

Re: HELP!!!! HELP!!! Engine failure
If the pistons hit the valves when starting they would generally bend. The way they’ve snapped is rather odd. Implies the timing is seriously out
If they’ve admitted retiming the engine you’ve got more leverage. Don’t back down as they’ll do everything possible to wriggle out of it.

Re: HELP!!!! HELP!!! Engine failure
Since it is a 2014 model there has been no recall from VW.It was only for specific vin numbers till 2010.
