Not until yesterday ... and then YES! My Polo SEL 5-dr is Aug 2015 reg, just turned 12k miles. To date no suspension noise whatsoever, but yesterday I had to call on VW Group Roadside Assistance to change F/N/S wheel (due to pot-hole damage - needs new tyre). As he jacked up the car, the below-car creaking noise was almost deafening! Clearly the front suspension (has to be that, as car was stationery). So I will get this looked at before 3-years is up on 8 Aug 2018.
Thank you for reporting on the outcome; very helpful!

Get them to check the anti roll bar bushes and the control arms. Both were replaced on my car but the issue was actually the control arms. All done under warranty, I believe mine was partly due to hitting a large pothole on a dual carriageway at about 70 mph (didn't see it as it was dark) but I didn't tell the dealership about that otherwise it might not have been done under warranty :)

Good luck, hope this helps.

Mate there is nothing wrong with your Car, i had the exact same problem, VW service counselor immediately found the problem. Before my eyes he took a professional pressure washer and cleaned very thoroughly all 4 bases of the suspensions just above the wheels, at that point i was thinking yeah right, there something wrong with a hardware on my car and this retard thinks he is gonna repair it by washing it ffs...

Well we jump in and went for a test drive after that... no squeak ever again.

Turns out that in this model dust passes through the lower base of the suspensions and accumulates, creating after some time this annoying squeaking sound.
Note that you must repeat every 2-3 months this process in order to keep your suspension clean.

grpolo,

By 'base of suspension', are you referring to the lower 'control arms' (often called 'wishbones'), or do you mean the lower end of the coilspring, where it sits against the damper in a sort of cupped seat?

If so, I can certainly understand road-dirt collecting in that cupped seat. But apart from the very base of the coilspring itself, I can't see that there'd be two surfaces normally grating together that much. As often as not, the coilspring seating on the damper is manufactured with some small holes in it, to allow rainwater and other debris to drop away and not cause corrosion there. But on all the cars I've had that have used this same more-or-less 'MacPherson strut' kind of suspension, they've all suffered from those holes eventually getting blocked. Sometimes a robust flat nylon or rubber washer is fitted between spring and seat, to act as a bit of a buffer. Every time I serviced the brakes I'd give that area an inspection and cleanup, and would apply some Waxoyl. Looks like I'll have to do the same with my nearly-new Polo 1.2.

@grpolo , where exactly in the world do you live and are the roads that you drive on normally covered in tar or just "metalled" roads? Also what age is your car?

As the previous poster I can't see how an accumulation of road grit is going to cause these creaking issues - especially when there are rubber bonded bushes at most contact locations.

Well i cannot discribe it better in english so here take a picture.
Stick the pressure washer in there and work it around, my karcher works at 160bar and it gets the job done.
As for the hardware stuff you mentioned, well it should not happen but it does, on my golf mk4 GTI & mk5 GTI this never was an issue and i even driven them on dirt roads.
I watched the videos posted for the squeaks mine did exactly the same thing, the longer you left it like that the louder and uglier the squeking was, even going down the garage ramp would make it squeak.
You eventually get scared listening to it, its like something is broken and there is friction between metal & metal.

Greece, Polo 6R 1.6 TDI BMT 2014

And the roads are tar of course, more dirty road conditions will make the issue apper sooner but no matter what, it will happen sooner or later...

Personally the issue with my car was to do with the lower suspension arms, not the coil spring. The fix for the issue I had will not apply to everyone obviously :)

grpolo,

Yup, the zone that you're referring to is where the bottom of the coilspring meets the damper seating. That seating is indeed a notorious mud/debris/water trap. In your case, that end of the spring could have rusted a bit. And if the buffer normally present between the seating and the spring has come adrift or has deteriorated, you could conceivably end up with metal-to-metal grating contact there, which you'd probably hear every time there 's a deflection of the suspension, such as when going over roadhumps or rough ground.

So maybe, in your case, this was indeed the cause of your squeak. But in matthew.bicknell's case, his (apparently) was due to damaged/worn bushes in the control arms (wishbones). As RUM4MO's pointed out, you can get squeaking, screetching noises coming from almost any pair of metal surfaces where the cushioning/bushing has failed.

@grpolo, okay, so tared roads and on a car only 12 months roughly older than my wife's Polo.

Still I would not expect these noises to be caused by road grit/dirt, especially anywhere on the struts - the top mounts on these cars is just a large rubber bush that gets trapped between the top of the top spring cup, with a small ball bearing , and the underside of the cars strut turret, with a top plate added above to stop any thing nasty hapening if the top mounting bush broke up, with a nut holding that down onto the top of the damper piston and so the top of the spring etc.

Have you ever had the front struts removed or replaced on that car, if so, maybe they have not been refitted correctly.

There was someone, in Spain I think, complaining of noticing too much movement around the top mounting after getting coil overs fitted to his car, so, if you lift the bonnet of your car, can you check that there is very little if any up and down movement happening car body relative to the strut mounting - some people have even reported that the top dust cover is getting knocked off because the top mounting is allowing the top of the strut piston to move high enough up into the car body when the suspension is getting compressed by bumps in the road.

Ive recently changed the shock absorbers top mounts of my car, because after 60k km there where thin as paper resulting in a annoying sound inside the car everytime i fell in a gap in the road.
So the dealer would inform me if there was an issue there.

Also my golf 7 GTD 2015 has the same issue if i dont wash the spring coil every a couple of months or so it will start to squeak.
So it seems its a common issue on newer VW's...

I replaced the top mounting on my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza 1.4 SC, I did that because it had broken one of its front springs and I just replaced everything, though with that age of Ibiza, it was known that VW Group did change some parts on the front suspension to avoid owners complaining of possibly "metal to metal" noises - these parts I assumed were the top ball bearing and a the top spring cup, so really I was doing two things, replacing the broken springs and replacing some parts that even when new were causing nasty noises to be heard - and that car did have some nasty metal to metal noises sometimes before I replaced the front springs, or before the front spring broke.

Hi there,

My car has been into the dealers another two times. They replaced the control arm bushes on both sides, and on the last visit, all of the suspension on the affected side was stripped down, greased and rebuilt, but they could not find the noise.

This morning, the noise returned. Does anyone know what the issue is? I am beginning to get frustrated with this and it would be good to hear if anyone else has been able to get this sorted.

MadWarlock, did you find out what was causing your noise - it sounds similar!

I got rid of that freaking sound! Accidentally! 😄
I was pretty sure that it was suspension, but in my case it was dash...

Few weeks ago I was busy with HBA and extra alarm installation.
So I removed dash for convinient acess to wires

Image

And when I assembled everything after, the sound is gone...
Unbelievable but it was dash! 😄

Probably when I will remove dash next time I will rework it with some sound-isolation material! 😉
