2011 polo 1.2 air con is not working thought it was low on gas but went to recharge it and gauge read high pressure on the fill/low pressure side of the pump so didn't recharge it,
i have heard of others having the same issue but cant find the answer, any one else had the same issue, thanks

You will need to make sure that the cooling fan(s) are working, also you need to check the low side pressure again maybe after the car has been unused for maybe 12 hours - at least switch the chiller off when using the car to see if the gas pressure drops back down.
One other thing, have you owned this car for long, if not has the AC ever worked for you, if not maybe the previous owner recharged it because it did not work, and has now over charged it - so now it needs some of its charge removed. Recharging is typically done, after you have added an initial charge to an empty system, by running the AC and so this low pressure side is lower than it will be when the engine is stopped, and so the refrigerant gets taken into the system quicker than possible if the AC was not running.
