Why am I seeing Polo GTI’s in the UK without the front red line continuing into the head lights anymore?
Has this feature been discontinued?
Or is it that halogen lights don’t get the red line and LED headlights do?

Yep. Only the LED light package get that red line.

Comes with the GTI+. :)

Awesome! 😁 Glad I ordered the GTI + ! Well ... apart from the ridiculous wait time!

Probably one of a very small few people who ordered the black roof as well... Did anyone else?

I thought it looked good but beginning to doubt my decision..

My GTI+ is pure white with the black roof. :)

Originally ordered a pure white GTI but then swapped the order. I was hesitant about the black roof as well but after looking at pictures I’m sure it’s going to look brilliant.

The black roof is described as a gloss black roof decal in the price list brochure, so it’ll be a vinyl wrap rather than the roof being painted black. If it was painted black, it’d probably cost significantly more than the £50 that VW are charging for the Black Roof Pack on the GTI+, as it would be necessary to rub down the body coloured roof to prep it for repainting it gloss black, and mask off the surrounding areas to prevent overspray onto other parts of the body shell before repainting the roof. Time is money to VW so it’s much cheaper and quicker for them to stick a vinyl wrap on, rather than repaint.

That looks like a mk1 1300XL or 1300E Ford Escort - a car I wanted in my teens back in the 1970’s but couldn’t afford!

I suppose the black roof option on the Polo could be called a vinyl roof, but assuming it is a vinyl wrap, it’ll be a smooth thin gloss black vinyl, not a quite thick leather grained matt finish vinyl that the 1980’s / 1990’s vinyl roofs would’ve been made of.

This YouTube video shows a modern gloss black vinyl wrap being applied to a VW Golf. I suspect with the factory black roof for the Polo, the vinyl will already be pre-cut to fit the roof prior to installation, or it may effectively be a large self-adhesive sticker.

And yes, many things that go around, come around - like black door mirror cappings and pressed metal number plates. People will pay extra for these now but back in the 1970’s/1980’s, black mirror cappings were commonly fitted to the entry level trim model in a car range, and you may have had to pay extra for Perspex number plates if you didn’t want the default pressed metal plates.

When I went to pick my Polo up, my mate who took me down there asked the sales guy about a new Polo GTi or a GTi+ and the waiting time? The sales guy said "that they didn't have a clue at the moment about getting either cars, they cannot even get one for themselves for the showroom, let alone for a customer"

So those of you who want either car, don't hold your breath :(

Just noticed in the latest price list dated 19/12/2018 that the 2019 model year GTI / GTI+ aren’t yet showing a ‘yes’ in the ‘WLTP type approved’ column (page 5 of the price list). If VW are building (or are soon to build) UK customer’s cars before WLTP type approval has been granted for the 2.0 200ps engine in the GTI/GTI+, they wont be able to be released to customers until WLTP type approval has been given. The price list isn’t immune from errors, so the WLTP information might not be correct. But the price list was last updated less than two weeks ago, so it begs the question.....has the GTI/GTI+ been WLTP type approved yet or not?

The same situation happened with the GTI Golf Performance model, which also uses a higher tuned version of VW’s 2.0 EA888 engine. Cars were being built and stored, pending WLTP approval being given. VW then need to apply for an MVRIS (Motor Vehicle Registration Information System) code for the model, and they can’t apply for an MVRIS code without WLTP type approval being in place. From discussions over on golfgtiforum.co.uk, it can take up to 3 weeks for the MVRIS code to come through, and this code is needed before vehicles can be registered with the DVLA. The body which issues the MVRIS codes is separate to the DVLA, so not the most efficient process, which could introduce further delays to customers getting their cars.

So even when cars have been built, timescales for delivery to customers could be longer than expected..........☹️

Iam not sure if there is any changes for rhd and lhd polos but adac shows gti and even 1.5 evo as wltp approved.

Could just be yet another error with VWUK’s price list for the Polo then. Hopefully they quality check their cars better than they proof check their product literature!
