Think you press menu then scroll over to settings then scroll down to system information.

That's the unit that can't be upgraded.
The only route is to change the unit in the glove box. Then get it unlocked/programmed

Oh ok. Thank you! Do you know anything about mirrorlink? How I get the code to activate it?

Thank you! Reckon this’ll be easy to fit? Then I’d just have to get the upgrade? ..

Re: Head unit - CarPlay/mirrorlink
It's easy to fit. Just get some vw removal keys and swap it over.
But it's best to look for someone local who has access to the vw main dealer software before doing anything.
The unit will work but will get locked as soon as it gets power. So you would need to get component protection removed this then disables bluetooth. So once CP is removed you will then need to get that re-enabled and then upgrade to app connect (there is going to be at least a charge for app connect)
I wouldn't bother with mirror link it's not worth it.

Yeah the unit that is in the glove box is cheap it's the Labour and code for app connect is the expensive part.
The app connect I'd say is worth it as it does integrate with your phone for more than just navigation.

It gives you all the apple music integration, maps, messages and full phone support - well worth the purchase

Re: Head unit - CarPlay/mirrorlink
one thing i will say is if you install a head unit into your car that is able to do car play/android auto
you get full use of it while component protection is active so you can see all functionality of it but there is no sound
