Genuine VW Polo 9N3 roof rack - auxiliary profiles?
Hi all,
I've just bought a Genuine VW Polo 9N3 roof rack for a 5dr polo (Part No.6Q5 071 126 A)
It came with what I thought was everything I need however upon downloading the fitting instructions apparently there are four auxiliary profiles that need to be fitted before the roof rack.
I don't have these - has one fitted these without them? Looks like it might scratch the paint work without them.
Does anyone have any available to buy? I guess you might be able to make something up, like a rubber insert but without a better indication of what they are / look like its difficult to say.
Many Thanks in advance
Jody

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your reply. Yes on your photo I think those little guides on the roof bars match up and follow the roof lines on the cars body. I have these present on my roof bars. It does seem from the fitting instruction manual that they come with these extra rubber inserts from new which fit into the door and allow the bottom of the roof bar bracket to sit on them as to not damage the paintwork / door rubber sill.
The link you shared to the Austrailian forum was interesting and similar to the problem I'm having although they didn't seem to get to the bottom of it unfortunately.
Cheers
Jody

Can you post a pic of the page on the manual? Sadly they don’t sell those parts separately though we might be able to find something that’ll work

Hi Alex,
No problem, attached are the pictures of the manual and I've highlighted red the parts it comes with.
Interestingly they didn't really refer to the additional parts on the Australian post. Its difficult to know whether they are actually essential or not.
Many Thanks
Jody

Hi Alex,
I hope you're well. Did you have any further ideas on the above? I'm still a little stumped
Many Thanks

I see what you are saying now about the rubber aux profile. I dont think it will make a huge difference if its only here and there you are using the roof bars. I imagine you will fit and remove as necessary?

Re: Genuine VW Polo 9N3 roof rack - auxiliary profiles?
Evening Alex,
Sorry for my slow reply. Attached are some pictures of my roof bars.
Like you say - I hope not having the aux rubber profiles will make too much difference. I don't intend to use the roof bars alot, just when going away for the weekend or picking up the odd item. They won't be on the vehicle all the time.
Do you think it would be worth mocking up some rubber inserts to sit between the metal roof and pins? It looks as though it could scratch the roof otherwise.
Many Thanks
Jody

Re: Genuine VW Polo 9N3 roof rack - auxiliary profiles?
Yes id maybe suggest some very thin rubber - perhaps stick on neoprene or rubber sheet to cover the inside of the feet to stop it damaging the bodywork
Re: Genuine VW Polo 9N3 roof rack - auxiliary profiles?
My roof bars have rubber bits that cover the whole profile of the metal which sits on the roof. 2017 polo GT 5 door. They came with the roof rack when I bought them.

Re: Genuine VW Polo 9N3 roof rack - auxiliary profiles?
Hi both,
Thank you for your replies. I think that's what I'll try - just sticking some thin rubber to the underside of the roof-bar brackets and see how that goes. As long as somethings between them and the roof so its not metal on metal contact but still nipped up tight when fitted obviously then it should work
I'll tackle this the weekend, need to order the rubber strips first, and let you know how I get on.
Cheers

Re: Genuine VW Polo 9N3 roof rack - auxiliary profiles?
Hi Jody,
I'm looking into purchasing a pair of these second hand and I very much doubt they'll have the rubber profiles you've mentioned. Could you let me know how you've been getting on with yours (a year on!) and if you sorted?
Thanks very much,
Paul
