Good Evening Guys and Gals.

Typically I've been lurking in the background for awhile now, most of the questions I've had about about my car have been answered by google pointing it's way over here so I thought it time to register and write a post about .. well, a thread about what I've done and plan to do with my first car.

With all that said and done, kid gloves an' all that, where would I be able to find the tech specs for my car? I know the basics but the empircal facts have been amiss or omitted from the dealer in which I got her from. I'd be happy to post my findings If you could just point me out to a trusted site please?

I use it a lot, it can also tell you the optional equipment and service intevals for timing belt etc.

There is a section held within the Ekta system in the dealerships, all VW Group dealerships, information system/spares system, that is called "CAR DATA" it lists all or most factory options fitted or not fitted during initial build.

I have always requested a print out of that for all our VW Group cars from my 2000 VW Passat 4Motion to my daughter's latest May 2019 SEAT Leon Cupra.

Where this all started for me was, I imported a very late RHD factory build 2000MY B5 Passat and so that meant that that car had quite a few parts that were changed for the FL ie B5.5, so if I just used aftermarket sources for brakes and suspension and maybe more, then I'd end up getting the wrong spares, so, one day I was in my local friendly VW dealership and he seemed to recognise that parts for my car were not always what the system first suggested, so he printed out a copy of "CAR DATA" and told me to have it with me whenever I came in to buy or order parts.

So, that means that I had a copy for my 2000 VW Passat 4Motion, I imported a factory order VW Polo 1.4 16V SE in August 2002, so got a copy of "CAR DATA" for that one a few months later. My older daughter bought a new SEAT Ibiza in late 2009, some time in 2010 I went into a local SEAT dealership and asked for "CAR DATA" - that time it took 2 parts guys 20 minutes to get it found and printed out. I replaced that Passat in 2013 with a slightly used Audi S4, again I went into my local Audi dealership and they managed to sort this out quite quickly. I replaced my wife's Polo with a new one in August 2015, again I went into the supplying dealership parts department and asked for a copy of "CAR DATA" - was given a blank look, they had never heard about that, both guys were probably mid 20's and sounded quite "with it" VW wise - "sorry that service is no longer provided due to the need to protect data etc" - so off I went a bit annoyed so left it at that. A few months later I was at my usual branch of that VW dealership and asked for this while in for service parts for another car, straight away they sorted things out and I walked out with a copy of "CAR DATA" for that car. Finally my older daughter changed her Ibiza for a new Leon Cupra, one day later that year I was near that dealership and asked for a copy of "CAR DATA" and got it.

My point is, you might get faced with "not possible" or "I don't understand what you are asking for" - but don't be put off, that info is there and you can get a copy of it. I find it very handy to have that info when buying aftermarket service parts.

I'd advise that all the information in that website is treated with caution, first thing that I spotted wrong was "aluminium" was quoted for body material, it is steel.

Also I could not find a service interval for the timing belt for a 2015 1.2TSI 16V 110PS petrol engine, now is is okay because there is not one officially, the condition of the belt needs to be examined frequently as the car gets older, and only replaced if found to be showing signs of wear/aging. Ask this question in any UK based VW dealership and their answer will be "5 years or even 66K miles".

There is some good information in there though, but just be aware some of it is wrong.

Yes, the information should be taken with a grain of salt, as for the service interval, i looked up my 2015 1.2 TSI 90HP DSG and it asid the interval for the belt is 180 000km.

Out of all the websites i have found i found this website to be the most insightfull when compared to the others. However through the Ekta system, it would be obviously better.

My New Polo

Now personally I'm a bit daunted by doing anything with her but isn't that why we do things in the first place? From my personal circumstances; I've been on the road for 16 years but a biker my whole life. Due to a messy divorce two years ago I was left jobless, homeless and well pretty much lost everything. However since then things have been going up !

Job came first, then came the little nipper whom affectionately got named "doodlebug" ( apparently that's what a Polo 6C looks like ) so her name got shortened to "Doodles". I found her in a parking lot outside of a Stoneacre garage, not the car I was after or even looking for ( can barely fit in her ) however she is the one I have and wouldn't trade her for the world. Sadly she seems to have been mistreated, "one previous owner" I'm told but she came to me with 39k on the clock, crack in the widscreen on the passenger side and the rear brakes wouldn't release if reversing from a standing start on flat terrain. So ! A windscreen repair and stripping the brakes to clean them and she's purring, well after a major 30k service this year too.

Sadly, as with everything nice, she seems to be a damage magnet; 2 weeks after getting her I parked in a multi-story out in c**t and some pillock must've tried to reverse into the space by the side and took the front bumper off of my car. Damaging the front passanger side wing, detaching the bumper around the wheelarch and breaking two of the clips surrounding the headlight.

Two months later and some builders in a Ford flatbed scraped down the passenger side door leaving a dent and a scratch down to the paint work.

All this is going to be fixed now ! Sadly no 'beauty shots' because of the damage However I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with her.


My first question is oft asked but I am looking to upgrade the Composition media headunit to one that I can integrate Android Auto into. I'm not intrested in DAB or Satnav but I would like it futureproofed for rear camera if need be. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Hum, I checked again, this time for your 2015 1.2TSI 16V 90PS petrol engine, and I see that it quotes a timing belt change distance as you mentioned about, it also includes a line "syncronisation" which is "belt" - my wife's Polo, again is a 1.2TSI 16V 110PS 6MT and there is no mention of "syncronisation" and no mention of belt replacement time/distance, which is weird as these engines are identical in 98% of their ways, and if remapped with a common map, end up with the same output power, which backs up my statement about them both being the same engine but with a different EUC map. Really strange as that site has so many other info correct about at least Polo.

Superplush, with regards to the radio, i would wait a little bit, there is another user on this forum that is going through the same change, for a MQB RCD330 there is a guy that has them for the 6Cs on Aliexpress, he has the android Auto one, if you wait for the other user on here to finish his build it will be a little easier for you, because the plugs are by the glovebox, so you will need to get a extension cable to bring it up to the dash.

Those units are quite cheap, 170 to 180 pounds incl delivery.

Name on Aliexpress is "LemonShark" i have spoken to him and there are happy reviews with people using the units in the polo 6Cs.

Thank you for the heads up, I have no idea as to the unit I have in now other than it wastes alot of space in the glove compartment that I really dont need it to!

Installed some wind deflectors today on her from Heko and give the car a bloody good wash, rain has been so dirty lately, excuse the mess

Nice just installed them on mine after much debating. Took some white spirit and 10 minutes of scrubbing and removed the brand logos from the deflectors. Looks way better.

That's actually a good idea, not too bothered about the branding myself so I think I might remove it too. Did yours fit alright? I must admit they say they're for a 6R and the metal clips are -really- snug in the 6C's windows. After installing I left ny car 24 hrs before opening the windows to be sure.

I've just visited VW Hayselden and it's a no-go on a software upgrade for my headunit ( what a shock! ) even though it would cost me £235 just to add the android auto and mirror link. They wonder why people tend to go aftermarket ?

Go for it, I have spoken to Lemon shark a few times, very respectable, good reviews on that unit, let us know how it goes.
