Hi guys, I recently bought my first car, an 05 9n3. I want to change the radio because the stock one is a bit naff let's be honest.
I don't have too much money to spend so I'm looking at a £35 pioneer stereo in Halfords. Does anyone know what wiring harness I will need to connect the standard connectors to the new radio. Will I also need an additional harness for the radio to work?
If you are able to provide links with any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated

Fairly easy to do with the correct adapters. I installed an Alpine UTE-204DAB using these 2 adapters and it was plug and play, however, the quadlock adapter is fairly pricey but was well worth the money in my opinion. If you were to go down the route of cutting wires it's always better to buy an adapter harness and cut that up rather than the factory wiring.
ISO to DIN:

The switched power I believe is done via CANbus on the 9n3 so if you were to not use an adapter you would have to find a source of switched power and splice into it. I think the closest one would be the cigarette lighter.
I followed this guide and it may be of help if you choose to not use the quadlock adapter.

Also as it'll be a single-DIN you'll need a single DIN pocket, you can either get a universal one or an OE one from your VW dealer. However, the OE pocket was about £40.

6Q0 858 167 A9 B9 - Single DIN Pocket insert
Universal pocket:

If you want to fit that universal pocket and want to be able to easily remove it don't put the locking tabs on as the only way I found to get it back out was to pry it out.

If you were to use that adapter you would still have to get an ISO to DIN adapter which is normal and your radio may come with one like mine did but you would need to get switched power from the cigarette lighter by splicing into it.
Then you would need a powered FAKRA to DIN aerial adapter which you also need to supply with power. On my radio, there is a 12v feed that comes out of the radio which is a blue wire labelled "power antenna" I imagine the DIN connectors are fairly standard so you would use that to power the aerial.
If the adapter is wired correctly and the two things mentioned above are taken care of then I don't see why it wouldn't work.
If my memory serves me correctly on the black ISO connector the wires are as follows:
Black = Ground
Yellow = Constant 12v
Red = Switched power
Orange = Dimmer
Blue = Powered antenna
I've also attached the pinout that is on the side of the RCD 200 radio, for the pinout of your radio you're looking to put in they're almost always in the user manual.
