New car - Retro fit questions- part numbers?

Post by Darrenblackpolo »

HI All

New to this forum but have been on other forums over the years, My daughter has just purchased a 2010 1.6tdi polo, appears to be decent so far, but I am wondering what retro fits are available and what the forum think are worth doing or a waste of time?

My first job is cruise control, I have already completed this retro fit on my 2002 golf tdi and need to do this for hers, I have looked at lots of info on the internet and on here and am struggling to find the correct part number for the stalk and wiring loom, I think I got the one for my golf direct from TPS many years back now, but called them last week and they were not any help!

Can you guys give me the part numbers I should be looking at

and then any other retro fits worth fitting and part numbers I should look at (auto head lights worth it??) MFSW? sound system?

I have VCDS official cable but few years old so only the HEX + Can version not the newer hex-net version but believe I can recode what I need to on a 2010 car, I have also used it quite a bit over the years so know my way around the VCDS system a bit.

Below is some of the scan info I think is needed to find the part numbers I am asking for, if there is anything else needed please shout.

the part number for the stalks I have on the car currently is 6Q0 953 503 EE

6Q0 953 503 EJ is the stalks you probably like to have with Cc and MFA

I assume CC being cruise control and MFA being multi function display? what would I get out of the MFA the car has the display with the white writing but not sure what it can do and what changing it would do for me, also, if I am changing it, what part numbers would I be looking for?

Ill look for the stalks now on net, anyone know is TPS.VW do a whole kit supplied with wiring loom?

Cheers

Yes correct for both abbreviations. VW don't supply a kit, you will need to make or purchase wiring separately.

Ok, so just ordered a cable loom, can’t be bothered to get bits and make one!

Will look for the stalks again tomorrow onwards, are there any other numbers that would work for the stalks?

What is the difference between the standard display I have and upgrading it? I what would I gain?

cheers

The standard display only shows outside temperature and the range when the fuel light comes on. With mfd enabled you can see a lot more stuff like have a big digital speedo(this must be activated separately), instant/average fuel consumption etc.

Thanks for the info.
I have done a little reading last night before sleeping, it looks like I use the same display but put some extra wire in and then activate it using vcds, is that correct? Is there a thread on this already on the site?

Cheers

Yes that is correct. I'm sure someone has done the mfa before but probably not in a dedicated topic.

HI Again

I have found one article on a different site, it does not say anything about activating the MFA just says it needs 4 wires from T41 to the cluster, I will look again later but assume this will need activating in VCDS? or does it automatically become active if the wires are there and I activate the CC?

Also, on that thread, the user had CC stalks as part number 6R0 953 521 C, can I use this too or am I restricted to 6Q0 953 503 EJ?

Cheers

Typically an electrical retrofit will require coding. The MFA is operated by three wires to the cluster, and needs to be activated in the instrument cluster coding.
Cruise control will be six wires to the stalks, four to the BCM, one to the ECU and one to the fuse box. It requires coding of the BCM and ECU.

Your model year 2010 car needs 6Q0 stalks. Your steering angle sensor does not fit the 6R0 stalks.

Thanks for the info, quite interesting as the other user said his stalks and sensors did not fit together, so he took to a dremmel/utility knife I think and shaved some off the unit to allow it to fit.

There appear to be quite a lot of 6R0 stalks about, not many 6Q0 stalks so the price is a lot more for the 6Q0 models, do you know if thats the only issue or are there other issues ? Ill probably keep looking for a 6Q0 model but its tempting to try a 6R0 model.

not sure either, but have just found out, if you search 6Q0 953 503 EJ on fleebay, you dont get many results and quite expensive, if you search 6Q0953503EJ you get a lot more items at much more reasonable prices.

the one im about to order is from a skoda fabia, but says its not suitable for my car, dont believe it though as its the correct part number so will order.

should have all the bits soon enough so will need to sort out a day to fit them

thanks for ya help so far, will probably be back! will update how I get on when I have completed the job.

Re: New car - Retro fit questions- I have issues!

Post by Darrenblackpolo »

OK, So I need a little help and dont know if I should put on this thread or start a new thread, so Ill put on here for now.

I got all the correct stuff and have fitted it, followed info posted on here and several sites, the Cruise control appears to work from a measuring block point of view as I can see bits working when I turn on/off and press the buttons, so believe I have completed things correctly, but I now have some faults.

Engine module, fuel pump issue,
ABS module , rear left wheel issue.
see scan

When I first power up the system after disconnecting the ECUs etc, I get quite a few codes but after 2 x auto scans and clearing the other faults, this is what I am left with.

Anyone have any ideas< where to start? where are the Fuel pump relay, fuses etc?

Car wont start!
Finger crossed someone can help
Darren

Fault is not confirmed so not present. Perhaps you need to clear it again. Otherwise all is fine.
