Battery upgrade

Post by amer6R »

Well after almost 3 years my Topla 66Ah battery has started to die.
Does anyone know what is the largest battery that will fit in the tray on CAYB engine? I'm thinking to fit a 80Ah battery, can the factory alternator cope with this?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Guys my tray is 29~ 29.5 cm long. The 80 Ah battery is 31.5 cm long. If i trim the sides flush aka flat do you think the clamp for the mounting location will line up?

The clamps will be fine, but perhaps you will start to bump into the cold air intake tube.
And the mount will probably be less strong since it relies on these bumps for stiffness.

What's the advantage of 80Ah? 66Ah can probably deliver well over 700A CCA for some years, your starter is probably only 1.5-2Kw so it's perfectly fine.

And do you need 80Ah for all the time you listen to the radio with engine off? Or do you leave the car for many days?

Yes, I became a weekend driver. The city traffic is awful, and I cant stand driving in rush hour...
So maybe giving it the biggest I can fit.

Cant decide on:

Saw Mutlu battery 80Ah for ~75 eur (740CCA)
Mutlu 75Ah (720CCA) ~70 Eur

or
Bosch 74ah( 680 CCA) 80 Eur + my old battery

I had to fiddle this week with wiper linkage ( it sized) had to transfer the motor over to the new linkage... me idiot didn't correctly align the little arm on the motor the first time ... ( 7degrees) ... Had to take everything 2 times

I kaput my battery by turning the wipers on a few times .

Reading mixed reviews with Mutlu batteries...
