Fix for front tyre making contact when fully turned?

Post by Ian095 »

Ever since taking ownership of my Polo GTI 1.8 (2016). I've noticed that if I do a full lock to the left on the steering wheel it appears as if a loud noise of the tyre making impact with some part inside the car occurs. I think the last tyre was more worn down to this which was on the car from even before I took ownership.

Im just hoping I'm not alone on this and if so, is there any solution to this? I asked a general garage one time yet they gave an answer that it's not of concern and *no issue" yet it is evident when it happens something isn't right. So what can I do?

The tires I bought are Michelin Pilot Sport 5 215/40 R17 Y (87). These are the same size as the previous tires as well.

If it's just the left side? I'd check for a broken spring on that side. Does the car look like it sits lower on one side or the other?

Its the right wheel rubbing off the inner part of the car when the wheels locked to the left. It doesn't appear to be a spring as I've used the car for ages no issues with it other than when I turn the wheel. Just confused as you'd assume it wouldn't be able to make contact but by the noise, it's clear it does and it's stock alloys / springs.

Can you see any indication of where it is rubbing? If the tyre is making contact it should be leaving a tell-tail on the chassis or wheel arch liner. Have you checked the ride heights are the same left and right? Have you looked under the car for damage to the suspension? We've got pot-holes you could swim in all over the place. Or maybe debris that might have just got snagged?

maybe
your inner fender liner is not fixed in all points
your control shaft is bent
your wheel in not identical to your other wheel

Get the wheel alignment checked first ,maybe one side is adjusted incorrectly , both track rod should have a equal amount of thread showing . easy to get checked/adjusted .
