Wrap on my Polo

Post by sejuani »

In recent years, I’ve wrapped my Polo twice, so here’s a brief summary of my wrapping experience.
For a VW Polo 6R, purchasing about 5 ft × 50 ft of wrap is more than sufficient.

First time:
I bought a cheap, unbranded wrap, changing the original silver to matte silver (toggle cost: TWD 2,528).
Because I worked outdoors, a lot of dust and impurities became trapped under the film.
Since I wasn’t changing the color, I only worked after office hours, and the entire process stretched over three months.
The cheap wrap lasted about one year before failing (the car was parked in a basement during work hours, but outdoors at other times).

Second time:
I chose VViViD Matte Demon Black Premium wrap.
Based on lessons learned from the first attempt, I also wrapped the front and rear bumpers this time (cost: TWD 10,705).
I took extended leave, worked from 8 a.m. to midnight, and finished the job in five days.

Quick summary:
Tools needed: a utility knife, a plastic squeegee (with flame-retardant tape), and a hair dryer.
After wrapping, if the vehicle color is changed, you can update your vehicle registration during inspection for an additional TWD 200.

This looks like a ton of work. Came out nice though.
I like the matte silver over the black, but both look good.
I sometimes wonder what my Cross Polo would look like in matte white.

I am scared of any stickers on paint though. If it tears or fails and is exposed to sun and wear you'll get a line you will never get rid of. This comes from my car having had vinyl decals on the hood from the previous owner. Even though the sticker is gone, you can still see its old outline. I have cut and polished and there's not getting rid fo that ghosting.
