Instrument lighting

Post by willr »

I am unable to dim the instrument lighting on my 21-plate 1.0 TSi 95 'Match'. It's a real issue. Other people who use the car just tell me I'm making a fuss but I really dislike bright lights in my face when driving at night.

I can summon a slider on the central screen that relates to this function... but it does nothing. The backlighting of the screen itself can be set to one of several levels but not the instruments, physical switches etc. The car reports 'this function is not available'. I find it hard to believe that with all the features fitted to these cars , something this basic is missing ? I checked with a friend's Polo Match of a similar age and it showed the same thing. My local VW dealer can't fix it either - they just said it is not a feature of the car. That is really lame. My 1983 Renault had a rheostat for the instrument lighting....

Anyone got any bright ideas? (sorry...) Can it be 'enabled' in coding?

Thanks in advance
