Hello..
I'm trying to fix a clunk on my son's polo 1.2tsi manual 2016. 90k miles
Clunk/knock when up shifting.
You can prevent the clunk by easing right off the accelerator and smoothly coming up with the clutch, but not normal driving, every upshift is a clunk.
I've put an new dog bone in it - the old one was very soft. This has helped, bit not fixed it..
So I've looked at the gearbox mount and it looks like it has a lot of front/back movement:

Is this normal or excessive, not a lot of force was required to generate this movement.

Looks like too much to me.
I'd replace that. Fairly quick job to do (unless you cross thread the bolt like I did and have to quickly find the tap kit to re-tap it
)
They will move just by hand, but that looks like too much.
Replaced mine well over a year ago with a Febi unit. Has started feeling soft again lately, but I have no changed the dogbone yet.
All these mounts are super soft as VW tries to manage NVH on such a small platform.

It was the gearbox mounting that caused that on my wife's August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS 6MT.
For some reason, VW Group used the "petrol" engine version on all the petrol engines even the turbo charged ones - and that caused many people to complain, then some time later, I think, they started fitting the TDI version to all the turbo charged engines petrol and diesel - now after maybe 9 years, I still can't rock the engine fore-aft very much, so that sorted that out!
I can hand over the part numbers later - just about to go out!

I can't find any reference to that number for 6C Polo, the first group of letters/numbers looks odd.
It was 6Q0 199 851 AS that is still listed for 1.2TSI both power outputs for the dog bone, the gearbox mounting was 6Q0 199 555 AR - and you can check the number punched/stamped into the metalwork of the mounting fitted to the car now, that was replaced by 6Q0 199 555 AS which at that time was the "TDI only" version - now TDI version has changed again.
One bodge was to buy the TDI dog bone - which was the wrong "shape" overall, press out its bonded bush, then fit that into the dog bone of the petrol engined version - ie end up with a sort of hybrid for want of a better description.
First Edit:- The correct "shape" dog bone mount for all the 1.4TDI engines now is 6C0 199 851 J .
Second Edit:- that VW Group part number, 6RF 199 851 C, does appear in the internet, but not a form of "numbering" that the official web cat uses for these cars, strange!
Third Edit:- or maybe the bodge was to remove the complete alloy arm with its bonded bushes intact, and fit that into the correct black metal bracket part of the dog bone mount.
