Here's my ergonomically-incorrect desktop at home (even worse at work).

This photo doesn't reveal how yellow that Microsoft mouse really is. Blame my acidic right hand.

Here's a version with "ambient lighting":

The CDs are usually scattered around but my mother and my girlfriend have made an 'intervention' in recent days. Rhino is my gf's idea BTW. Also noteworthy is the USB telephone for Skype which is saving me a considerable amount in mobile phone calls.

I've been considering a LCD monitor but 1. I'm broke right now and 2. I haven't found a model with incorporated USB hub yet.

I'm an ex-Mac user, when I moved to PC I bought that LG monitor with a hub built-in. So my PC has very clean and iMac-ish setup (only 5 wires come out of it: AC, sound, network, monitor and USB). Keyboard and phone are attached to the monitor, and the mouse is attached to the keyboard.

Mouse dates back to my iMac days - I destroyed the original, round iMac mouse in a fit of rage and had to buy something USB to replace it. Ironically, the only properly-shaped mouse that fit the iMac was made by Microsoft.

Couple of months after that I bought the PC and have no regrets. I hate Macs to this day.

The TV you see there is attached to an illegal cable connection - they charge by the room here. The cable had to go through my room to reach the living room, so I decided to 'siphon' some of the signal for my own benefit. My parents pretend they don't know. Contrary to what the TV ads say, image quality hasn't deteriorated at the other, fully legal and paid for, cable TV points in the apartment.

ok now, seeing as i only did mine as a keyboard show rather than desktop, it wasnt really zoomed out a bit to show it's full glory. brace yourself - its a bit messy at the mo! (i clean it, it looks great but a bit lifeless, then it quickly descends into chaos again - it's hereditary, my dads flat is equally slobby!)

edit: crap..... i was really off to get some batteries for the digicam. no functional AAs in the entire house it would seem.

Hehe.

Monitors with USB hubs are the best.

You know what I found out about Microsoft? They're better at making hardware than software. I've had that "internet keyboard" since 2001 and it still feels brand new.

The optical wheel mouse (2000) has turned yellow with time (pretty much like Super Nintendos did) but still works perfectly.

better late than never....:

we have.... (big breath)

*Custom built once-moderately high performance (now staunchly entry-level) PC in a Â£9 ebuyer case that has no right to look so nice,
* a late 90s Dell 15" monitor,
* 15 year old keyboard,
* "typhoon" optical wheel mouse (Â£7.50, ps/2 not that usb nonsense, bargain),
* incredibly dirty Guinness mousemat (i should replace it and clean it - looks like it's got mildew) with about a tenner in change, some sudafed, and a pack of tissues on it,
* random crap on the desk: various cups, random bits of paper (including college work), a poppy, sunglasses, a phone wind-up charger, camera/minidisc USB cable, palm hotsync cable, some rechargable AA batteries (all dead), ancient cassette...
* lots of crap (mainly - hopefully - pens) in the right hand cubby hole, lots of magazines down the left hand side

The black blob to the left of the PC is one of the stereo's speakers, it should be on the floor to the left of the desk, pointing upwards for good acoustics, but the leaky roof means that red bucket is currently taking pride of place. That's also why the right hand speaker is so far forwards - the desk has been shifted about 6 inches right to allow for that, and it cant fit between desk and bookshelf any more. I'd managed to keep the place halfway tidy until that happened, but now the rot is setting in as i can't keep it in good order until they're back where they belong. Tidy up every few weeks but it just doesn't "work".
The piece of paper atop the left speaker is the hurridly scribbled crime number and contact information they gave me down sutton station - i'll have to give them a call and see what's happening about it.

Also visible (count 'em)
* Too many extension leads
* Â£12.99 Index discman (with antishock, decent 'phones and a genuine 20 hour battery life, no less)
* Â£120 (well, it *was* once) Amstrad 2-piece micro hifi. One of the first to have a CD player in, and it's still almost fully functional about 12 years on, except for the backlighting and remote. With the speakers on from another beefier stereo I bought in '98 (and died in '02), it can kick out a surprising amount of power and deep(ish, no subwoofer) bass - far more than it should be able to with the specs it has, anyhow!
* various deoderants and other body produce
* horrible awful uncomfortable chair! the trousers are as much for padding as storage
* jeans in the place they were meant to be - the floor
* my diving bag, hasnt been open in months, has bits and pieces on it now... going to get fossilised!
* Bottom part of a 2004 Studio Ghibli calendar, complete with incomprehensible japanese holidays marked on it
* Belfry till card (bonus points for finding it)
* Worrying brown stain on the wall where my bed headrest used to be, its not visible without a camera..
* Loadsa books... all read at least once. Well. Some of them.
* Lots of tapes, hurridly stuffed into that position from their former happy on-display resting place when mum decided to rearrange and redecorate. Haven't yet found a good place to shift 'em to.
* Horrible giant orange ornamental clownfish that nan bought me ages ago when she went through a phase of thinking everyone loved ceramic sea life... not allowed to get rid of it.

Things i didnt realise i still had til i took this:

CD labelling plunger device ; CD cleaner spinner thingy ; electrical tape ; small energiser torch ; scissors ; scholl footspray (i dont look "at" that bookshelf much right now!)

Oh BTW, thats not the only chaos:

I've been needing to sort those plastic boxes and a lot of those CDs out for the best part of 18 months now - they'll probably still be hanging around my neck when i'm dead. (get an understanding of how so much crap built up in the car?)

got the '03 in one of them there plastic boxes (yellow one bottom left actually, now ive glanced over) ... and 2005 on order. Apparently it'll take something crazy like 6 weeks to ship.. can't complain for Â£27 ($42) though!

if that one's also ring bound i'm going to see if i can extract the picture pages off those two without damaging them, and make one with 40-odd piccies on.

... need to keep an eye out for anyone ebaying a 2002 one or earlier though, i'd love an On Your Mark frame to put up from time to time (with the policemen guarding the runaway angel etc.. its just cool)

(of the belief the whining girlies in coldplay should stop whining and that "funny" clippets from films/cartoons/comedy shows/whatever are only funny within the context of the "whatever" and not anywhere else - saying "garlic bread", "yeah i-know" etc. aint big or clever - if i wanted to hear such a thing, i'd watch peter kay, little britain or whatever. If your gonna be funny, say something original)
