Known/common faults
i have decided that since cars do eventually go wrong , and quite often a lot of people may ghet a similar problem so if youi have a fault that you think may have been a common fault then please tell us.
all that i ask is that we try and keep this reasonably on topic so that if somebody is having a problem they dont have to scroll through 5 pages of chat to find it*
and also
please to aid searching please try and make it clear what the problem is/was
eg
Spark plug failure
fault occoured during hard driving at high revs causing loss of power, missfire and check engine light
remidy
replace spark plugs
notes
ngk platinum plugs were fitted and resisted failure

I know mine's a GTi, but here's a list of the problems I've had (and I know they are common faults):
* Ignition Barrel Failed
* Pedal Box Cracked/Clutch Cable Frayed/Clutch Plate Knackered
* Gearbox Noisy
* Rear Washerjet Pipe Split, causing damage to the boot lock electrics
That's it. I hope I don't get any more problems as the car runs out of warranty next month

put rear washer pipe back on at 20k. and had to replace boot lock becuase the water had damaged it. the dashboard light has never worked since.
rear brakes/handbrake squeeching and grinding from about 4k now at 30k they have seized 2x. in between various vw garages have carried out work on the brake system 15x.

I never got mine sorted out.Josh_PoloGTi wrote:Oh! Don't get me started on the allignment of steering wheels... I've given up!
On my 6N I took it back about 5 times until they got it nearly right.
My 6N2 has a very slight skew to the left.
And I bet the person who has my 6n2 now has probably taken it back a few times...
hi guys im kinda new here! thought id share my wee....ok my many probs i had with my baby.
here goes...
my rear wash jet is now buggered for the 2nd time, boot light keeps comin on cos the water leeking on electrics. 1st time round it buggerd the lock totally and had to have it changed.
feck!!
warrenty runs out in march eeek better sort it out asap!
other probs include steering wheel allignment was off, driver side door lock jammed was "repaired" then bust after a week so had to have that changed , rattling from the dash (drove me nuts for aaages cos the guys at vw could figure ware it was comin from) turns out the prob was low down behind the ashtray area, and finnally the gear box....was finding it hard to put it into reverse and making it stay in reverse!
is it me or is my car a bucket???
