It's not so bad, but i prefer ciclo's xenon headlight soultion, unfortunately the xenon price is more then twice as much.

At £250 for the part I went to my local VW garage with the intention of getting it done.

After they had quoted 4.5 hours @ £95p/h I left disappointed.

Hi guys,
Incredible topic and amazing things happen, Image... :| ...Image , sorry, sorry, sorry, sincerely, but I had to read the whole post after being asked by lxm.

Due to the different possible electrical installations in different Polo 6R, needs to be done the following.

Solution:

-First point: Remove pin3 from light switch connector. Isolate this pin with cloth tape. Check now if LEDs are working properly. If not do the second point.

-Second point: Also remove pin6 from light switch connector. Isolate. Check now if LEDs are working properly, If not do the third point.

-Third point: With VCDS in BCM (address 09 cent elect) unmark bit 6 in Byte 23.

I will explain the steps of this video:

-He is in the car and put the key in the ignition. Everything is OFF.
-With the light switch to "0", he turned the key until ACC position without engine starting. LEDs illuminate. +15
-He turned the key, engine started. LEDs continue illuminated. +15
-He goes to the light switch, put side lights. Side lights will turn ON and the LEDs turn OFF. +58
-Quickly goes to the light switch, put dipped beams. Also the dipped beam are turned ON. + 56b
-He does the reverse process to "0". +15
-He push the indicator stalk in the two directions, also, he pressed the warning light switch. Switching OFF the LEDs whereas indicators are working. This function must be embedded in these LED modules.
-...OFF
(also he pushed wiper stalk  )
I do not know how is the wiring diagram of the harnesses that must be inserted, but the important thing is in the light switch.

Please, we all hope your results...

Firstly I want to thank Ciclo for getting involved with this problem after I pmed him for advice! - Ciclo I shall try your method ASAP.

I purchased these VW LED DRL's without fitting to save some money. I decided before I install them with the bumper modification I would plug them in and make sure they operate as VW describe, and as shown in the YouTube video I posted previously.

I plugged in the LED DRL and they didn't work as described, or as shown in the video I posted earlier.... I was gutted! These LED DRL's switch on permanently along with factory set low beam as DRL..... it looks terrible. As Ciclo stated, I think it depends on the region your polo is from.... These LED DRLs do not work plug & play in the UK!!!!

This is my experience with these lights....

UK region polo 6r operation with VW LED DRL :

0) - low beam on as DRL, LED DRL also on
1) - side (parking) light on, LED DRL also on
2) - low beam on, LED DRL also on
Hazard light on - LED DRL OFF
Left signal - left LED DRL OFF
Right signal - right LED DRL OFF

Attached to the wiring of each LED DRL unit there is a 2 wire 'loop' with two connectors.
-black socket& wire connected - LED DRL POWER REDUCED BY 50%
- Yellow socket & wire connected - LED DRL POWER OFF PERMANENTLY
- no socket connected - LED DRL AT FULL POWER.

Interestingly the instructions state that depending on which model of polo you have, either 1) day running light) or 2) permanent running light) you should connect the relevant socket and wire, and in the VCDS you should select either 1) 'use separate day running light' or 2) 'disable permanent running light'

My VCDS for polo 1.2 70PS moda (2010) doesn't have the 'disable permanent running light' option, and the 'use separate day running light' option doesn't work!

I will post updates with Ciclos instructions! But it makes sense that it is all in the light switch control.

Supposedly, these new DRLs were manufactured for Polo 6R models that do not have any kind of DRLs. I'm not sure, but I think at the beginning of the sale of Polo 6R some did not have DRLs.
The DRLs were established as mandatory in many countries and these new DRLs were a nice and good solution.
These new DRLs are in conflict with the DRLs who whether have all current models, either in headlights or additional lamps beside the foglights.

Try what I said.

SUCCESS!

I have the Official VW DRL LEDs working as described.

For UK polo 6R's

1) Bend or insulate pin '3' = Disables low beam DRL function at switch position '0'
2) Bend or insulate pin '6' = Disables plate lights at switch position '0'
3) VAGCOM 'turn off parking/side lights at position 15' = Disables front & back parking/side lights at position '0'

Standalone, without the LED DRL's fitted the above steps provides a vehicle without any DRL function, at switch position '0' the car has no lights active.

If you do not have the LED DRL's,You can still do step 2) & 3) and have a more 'true' DRL function which would have only the low beam active, no plate lights, and no rear reds.

I have ordered the adhesive kit for the bumper modification and plan to fit the LED's next week. I am currently running the car without any DRL function and have already been asked from a fellow 6R driver how I did this in the supermarket car park :D

Also, with the LED DRL, there is a 2 wire 'loop' where you can select different function, there is 3 options :

1) LED DRL OFF when side light or low beam ON
2) LED DRL 50% power when side light or low beam ON
3) LED DRL 100% power when side or low beam ON

I think I'll choose option 1

Thank you ciclo!

WORK IN PROGRESS........

First side done! They look awesome! I was really worried about how they would turn out.

Also they are *super bright* on par with Audi, Citroen DS3 etc

The pictures don't do the lights any justice in terms of brightness. I am very happy with them, much better than dipped low beams permanently.

There is only two issues I have with these lights. As previously mentioned by johnnymagnum, the passenger side LEDs have a yellow tint where the driver side LEDs are super bright white. I don't know if this is a design fault or some sort of saftey regulation?

The yellow tint is most noticeable when you are standing very close around the car looking at both lights from various angles. If you stand straight on, and walk 30,50,100 meters from he car and crouch down on your knees both LEDs appear to be more similar . The left side mainly appears yellow as a pedestrian close up? Strange

I reported earlier that the passenger (left) side DRL glows yellow whilst the driver (right) side DRL glows bright white. I really like the DRL's but the yellow glow on one side looks terrible and I am thinking about removing the DRL's completely and fitting a new bumper (£200 including primed & painted)

I have checked the DRL's height and sitting position on the bumper and they are identical, the viewing angle of the yellow light makes no difference to its color. Both DRL's are connected using the same power setting plug (there are 3 options)

I have phoned MSDesign direct and they said the product has a 2 year warranty, but they cannot offer me replacement or fix because I am a retail customer, I must contact the retail distributor. I have been trying to email and phone the german company I bought the DRL's from for weeks with no reply! I decided to go onto paypal to make a disupte and luckily I found a different email address for the company. Within 5 minutes I had a reply asking for pictures of the lights.

Unfortunately the color difference is not really visible on the photos, I hope that the german company will send me at least a replacement for the left side!

My mechanic, friends and family all confirm the color difference.

Thoughts ?

In these three images, you can clearly see the difference. That would be a major bugbear for me too, so I completely understand.

Hopefully you can a due replacement. :)

Success! I am being send a set of replacement lights tomorrow.
Hopefully I can remove the left light with some effort, I suppose it wont matter if it gets damaged. I will sand the bumper free of old bonding adhesive and start again!
