just bought a polo for my wife that has this exact same problem... the noise the bearings make is a sort of 'high-pitched humm'... very, very, very annoying!
funny thing is, it also has the problem with the squeeky brake, as you take your foot off the brake you get a loud squeek... i thought it was just the pedal...
might see if i can do this myself... but i don't have much room to work on it. i take it this is a job someone at any garage could do?

Yeah any garage/tyre fitting place can do it but shop around on the price

What is going on with the mad symbols: – etc?
Is there any chance you could edit out the symbols in case they're in place of some vital information.

i did this on my car a couple of weeks ago.its not all that hard to do.
i foud that tha haynes book made it sound a lot more difficult than it is tho
