That's just about the same story I got from the sales guy. VW customer services can help to trace the order if you give them the commission number when the car was ordered.
Did not mention how it was damaged, just that VW would not let the dealer replace it with the one from the model in the showroom.
Hey dougmac, any luck with your car yet?
I've just been fobbed off again with another delay. This time its because they are having delivery problems ( for over a week? ). Im not sure if its just me being impatient, but this is really starting to grind me down. If I hadnt put such a big deposit on it already, I'd have been checking out 2nd hand cars - or other dealers for a quicker turn around. Its the same old problem of communication tho, I've had to do all the chasing up, it doesnt occur to them that I would be eager to be kept updated on where my car is, and its expected delivery date. I mean three months wait.. isnt that just a bit too long? its not as if its a custom made super car with a huge waiting list.
Sorry about the semi-rant. Im sure once I get the car - all this will be just a distant memory.
Thanks for the info about VW customer services and the commission number.. If me car isnt ready by Monday, I think I'll ask the dealer for the commission number and chase it with VW myself.

I cannot blame you for that. I put my order in on the 30/09.
It has been really bugging me all week so I rang VW yesterday. Did not have the commission number either, but the guy was really helpful.
It turns out that there was more damage to the car than the dealer let on, the alloy wheels were also damaged. Something to do with the car being built in Belguim not Spain as usual and there have been teething problems with the shipping process. He also mentioned that I was not the only one effected by this. Also that as it was a new plant there was a shortage of parts so could not say how long it would take to sort it. It's VW's responsibility until it gets to the dealer so it is stuck at the port until fixed.
Was about to give up after this but the manager at the dealer rang to say that he has agreed with VW to pick the car up themselves and replace the parts with the one they have in the showroom. Will be ready next week but might as well wait an extra week for the 05 plate. So it looks like it has finally been sorted.
I think it's worth ringing VW yourself to check this is not effecting you as well. Here is the number 0800 711811 and select option 3.
Let us know how you got on, good luck.

Thanks! I'll give them a ring if it doesnt turn up on Monday.
I didnt even consider the fact that were only two weeks away from 05 plates! that just makes it worse

I wonder if I can get them to hold onto it for a few weeks. Probably not since they've already given me the number plate and I've bought insurance for it.. which is another annoying thing, I'll have paid a week and half of insurance on a car which I dont have yet.

Dougmac, its Inchcape enough said!
Just do a search for posts by me and all will be revealed. They are ok until you actually pick the car up so i'd go somewhere else for aftersales. (Trust Stourbridge maybe, but i've heard stories about them) Trust Wolverhampton is the best service i've ever experienced.
Gra-gt will back me up on both Inchcape and Trust service!

Thanks for the advice jrw.
I live in Cardiff so will be looking for a good dealer closer to home.
I had not heard of Inchcape before but ended up with them because when looking on the web for the best price, Autobytel were the best at the time and they are owned by Inchcape. Plus they offered part-ex unlike some of the online brokers. Quite a bit cheaper then Cardiff VW.
But your right it has not been a good experience.
