I am fuming. I should change the title of this post to 'About to lose my mind entirely.'

Problem is, they won't accept responsibility. Since we had it back for one day this week, they claim it happened then. I'm pretty sure it didn't, but I'll debate with the chief mechanic on Monday to convince him...

The damage isn't too bad though, I'm sure it can be fixed. They scraped the laquer off on two places, and ground the metal down a bit as well. There's also a bit of tyre missing, but the carcass isn't showing, fortunately.

I would be more concerned about the fact they must have been driving quite 'briskly' to do that much damage.

let us analyse how the average spanner jocky thinks:
Spanner Jockey sees car and notices the non stock wheels, slightly lowered and assumes " duh erm ah oh yeah [pulls finger out of nose] dat der is one of dem souped up cars that get driven hard" so he jumps in, starts her up and hears that the engine is in good shape (we can tell just by the sound you know) then the next thing that the rev counter sees is the needle getting shoved some where around 4000rpm and then the lurch as he lets his foot off the clutch and then the usual squeel etc. After the work is done a spanner jocky jumps in for a road test and gently pulls out of the car park, he is then in redline mode. think about it, why dont you thrash your engine all the time? cos your paying for the fuel and you dont want to kill YOUR engine. however mr spanner doesnt have theese concerns as its not his fuel and not his engine. now that particular day he might have already road tested a few vehicles ranging from lupos to LT35`s so his judgement of size is still adjusting when Wha-Ching my ronal says hello to mr concrete and they excange surfaces
i of course only know this from seeing other mechanics doing it

its also the reason why if my car is in a garage then so am i! but you can use it to your advantage as all mechanics know that if you like to tune your car then your going to be overly critical of every fault so the work gets done better and in the case of things like tyres you will get the sportier pressure without asking, and all that can be done by somthing as simple as leaving a techno tune in the head unit so it plays when he starts the car

Great stuff Ash, wonderful insight! No damage done this week luckily, apart from a screw in one of the rear tyres. Oh well.

Another update then.

It's Friday afternoon now, after the fourth week in a row at the dealer's.

There is no solution. They don't understand what's going on, neither does VW NL. Monday will begin the 5th week of nonsense, and I have lost all faith in the dealer, and I lost some faith in the brand too.

Having a problem is one thing, taking over a month to figure it out is something entirely different. I can forgive a problem, but this is rediculous.

I think I'm going to watch Fight Club now. Or play some SoF II.

Well...

I think it's sorted!

Drove about an hour just now and it seemed to hold out all the way! I'm a bit afraid to cheer just yet, but I sure hope it's fixed now.

The last thing they changed was the interior temperature sensor, quite a cheap part probably. The total hours spent and parts exchanged will cause the bill to be in the triple or quadruple digits by now, so there will be quite the row about the money issue. It took them over 5 weeks...

Let's pray it holds out.

Now I'd like my wheel back. And my camera, but that's a different story.

*Update*

Went to the dealer today, finally got my R10 back.

The wheel looks allright, but it's not identical as the other three anymore. How nice. The lip has been sanded down, so it has an angle now, instead of a curve. I've decided to block this information from my mind to keep me sane.

Next part was the bill -

Total cost was â‚¬ 1103,97

for fixing my airconditioning, and â‚¬ 60 of that amount to fix the wheel.

I just managed to avoid shouting. I could've gotten myself a set of KW Variant 2's (Inox line, obviously) for this kind of cash. It's about 700 Pounds I believe.

After a long discussion, it is now down to â‚¬ 445,19. Still a lot of cash, but I'm done arguing. They did help me out to get my MOT sorted on a really short notice (it's overdue already) so that was nice of them. Still gutted though.

Well,

Apparently there was an interior temperature sensor that went ape. It's been replaced (along with half of the car) and it's working fine now...

The guys wouldn't tell me exactly what part it was to avoid me refusing to pay for everthing else.
