could you please PM me when you have fitted the tyres and let me know if they worked. I have a MKIII square back and am hoping to fit 14" Golf GTi Alloys once I have finished refurbing them. mines lowered by 40mm in the back so I'll have to adjust the tyre size slightly, but so far have not found anyone alse who has 14s on a lowered square back who can tell me the correct tyre size

no problemo polonuts, i'll be keeping this post updated wiv all my progress, i'm still refurbing mine too atm then hopefully fit them for early july so it's ready for when i pass my d-test 1st time 8) , i found that problem when i was deciding what wheels to have, seems like not many squareback owners wanna go for over 13" wheels, but i'm not a fan of the 13" options so i thought i'd just have to try it and hope for the best. if they really don't fit then i'm sure there'll be sum1 willing to buy them and try and make them work. i only paid £47 for 'em after all.

I know there are a few mk3 squareback owners with 14" wheels, and the arches are just the same on mk3's, so it might be worth asking in the mk3 forum for advice.

 I've already tried that but there seems to be no end of confusion for the right size of tyre. Thought that I might have some luck from you guys :?

They're fine now on my 165/65's, plenty of clearance, but they would rub on my 175/70's, even with a section of the arch cut away. Only with a heavy load though, and only when going over bumps once I'd got the arch trimmed.. still, it unnerved me listening to my tyres being scraped away like that so I got them changed.
think mine were a differant et

these are the wheels i got
[img]http://cars.uk.freeads.net/cache/images/190147.jpg[img] not sure on the sizes and et :? but they are 13" :P

:D Cheers GC, that pic made my week lol, i'm refurbing the wheels atm then hopfully going to my nan's (where my car is being kept atm) next weekend, so i'm gonna have a workout of how much room i've got to work with.

p.s i used that 1010 tyres calculator a while back for mine and it said that 165/65/14 would work so i'm going for that till proven impossible

Yeah I would personally fit 165/65/14 tyres every time. It'll give you a little more clearance and to be honest a car as light as a MK2 Polo doesn't need tyres any wider than 165.
The car looks really nice too, love the colour and proposed wheel combination, be great with a 40 mm drop.
