well it could possibly be my mum, who did actually buy the car and used to drive it before the coilovers were fitted, she now has another car.
I do relise that it is illegal to lie on your insurance but tbh how is anyone going to know?

i pay stupid amount for my insurance as its my first car policy but i would still rather pay more and be the main driver as everything is then mine eveything in my name and all legal. you give the police or insurance companies the slightest chance to get you by the nads and they will!!!! plus i'm covered to drive other cars

which means i can drive the brother-in-laws big fast cars

:D

They can find out during the investigation in the event of an accident (*touch wood*) But if the car's V5 is registered to the main driver on the insurance policy you have the better advantage as you can say its your mums car and your just driving it for today and your are on the insurance as an additional driver.
Now if the car's V5 is registered to the additional driver its looks more suspect and they will do anything to try and not pay out which is not what you want, when you really need the money to fix the car.
Its only illeagal if you get caught...
im aware of that but i was thinking that considering the fact you (and i use the term 'you' but do not mean anyone on the forum, just easier to say you) are the additional driver when infact you are the main driver this would invalidate your policy and therefore you are not driving around with insurance
....that may be me thinking too much into it but i'm sure you get the point.

i paid a silly amount in my first year of my own policy. was on company policy for 18months or so, and during that time had and accident, me at fault

although it blaitenly wasnt! then i had an accident in the work van, not my fault at all and full blame to other party.
so i took out my own policy as i had to some day.
18yr old, 2 accidents and 0 no claims. on my modded 1.2 9n.... wait for it... £2400
that was the cheapest i could find all over the place. i have paid that for 12 months and my renewal was 1800!! i knew i could get better and i shopped about and my latest quote with all mods is £1047 by HIC.
i am very happy with this price and il be taking it out.
i even got a 10% discount for being a member of uk-polos!

talk to your broker / agent / whoever and see if they can't look around to find a more sympathetic policy that takes into account the fact that the car is a/ not really prestigious b/ quite slow and c/ efficient!
i paid more than the car was worth, first time i insured the polo, but considering my age and situation it wasn't really "through the nose"... cuz I touted around and badgered the people on the phone / in the shop-office-thing to see if a better deal was available. If you just go through their internet site or take the first thing they offer you, then you may well end up with the most expensive thing they feel they can get away with as they then earn a bigger cut --- but if you pester them they'll take it right down to the wire because getting a tiny commission from you is better than no commission at all. also play the components game - make sure you get the cover and extras you REALLY want, drop all the extraneous stuff that's no use, and work out a sensible premium vs excess balance.
you may well have done all these things, but maybe not. perhaps you didnt realise you could, or were afraid to. i didnt realise, and was a bit timid, til parents encouraged me to be a bit bolder and act the consumate consumer with them. otherwise i would have just taken the best internet quote and stuck with it, rubbish options and all. they're just a guy/gal on the end of a phone line or accross a desk - they can't hurt you.
and dont lie to them or try to play them for fools, because when it comes down to the point where you need to call them in - an accident, theft, or other Bad Thing happening to or with the car ... then you're dealing with the Police or the insurance loss adjusters, who will kick your arse over any discrepancy if you don't have your wits about you all the way.
