what those figures for?

and are they VW or actually tested?

my 16v does 0-70 in 10.5

the reason a GTI gets beat by a 16v is all gearing for sure

i will put money on both cars from a decent rolling start say 80mph, that the gti would cain the 16v

but from a standing start the low gearing of the 16v makes it faster

the lupo and polo i dont see thier being any difference between speeds, they both have same engine, similar weight and pretty much same gearing

so thier shouldnt be much, if anything between two of similar spec

Sorry Jez, I didn't make it clear.
These are the times for the 5 and 6 speed Lupo GTI.
These were printed by a mag that did a fetaure on the Loop a couple of months back.

imo from a 30mph rolling start the GTI would have the 16v.

The Lupo GTI (and Id imagen the Polo GTI also) is defenatly geared for mid range clout.
Which other than days at Santa pod makes the GTI a great drive.
TBH Ive found most of the newer range of VWs are pretty s**t from a standing start, even my *cough* 1.0 was geared all wrong.
It too 15.06 seconds to reach 54mph when I run it up a test strip.
It took less than 5 seconds to get from 30-60mph!

They are figures as tested by VW Driver mag.
Heres the gear ratios also for the Lupo

And for the Polo

Nothing in it really between the two of them.

cool

so that kinda says that a 16v is just as fast as a lupo gti then? or faster than the 6 speed?

I dont see the point in working out speeds from a standing start, how oftern do you race someone off the lights? I mean you got to be a real f*****g prat to stand there reving at the lights.

Its all about 70-top speed imo...

I wouldnt want to race somoene 70-top speed in my GTi. The polo doesn't have that much torque, its a car for sprinting along B roads, nice accelleration mid range. The 1.4 tdi version of the mark 5 Polo packs out 195nm of torque @ 2300rpm. Our GTi has 152nm @3300. So its pulling force is not that much, esp at motorway speeds.

Dont you meen 30-70mph?
Seen as 70mph is the legal speed limit ;)

jez, I really want to see the diffrence between standard Lupo/Polo GTIs compaired to Lupo/Polo 100hp motors.
Hopfully be able to join in the fun to show what us 75hp-ers can do ;)

if the lupo has the same 'box as the mk4 polo 1.4 16v, id say that they were faster/same as the gti counterpart

as going by those stats the 16v polo seems to be faster than a gti?

I dont know.
Like I say, the Lupo Sport, was close, but past 60 the GTI started to edge away.
Im pretty sure the gearbox in the Lupo Sport is much like the Polo 16v.

Look forward to finding out though!
