its sounds simple but i heard a rattle when ticking over and it gradually got louder as time progressed!!
and annoyed me a lot.....so i set to work hunting the cause and it was sumin so small!!
the collor that connects the downpipe to the manifold was loose...and as i racked the miles ignoring the noise it got worse especially when changing gear and speedin up from idle..
check it and see..........you never know

ha... well, i will, because otherwise that'll guarantee it being the cause and i'll look like a numpty three months down the line... but.... would it really be the cause of that awful screeching noise and a tangible wonky-bearing kick-back feeling?

Highly unlikey, seeing as the clamp I think he's talking about is only fitted to the Mk2s with the single tube downpipe. You'll have a twin-tube downpipe that's bolted to the exhaust manifold.

i'll have to have a (super sneaky) go at loosening the shafts first, i think. if i can't do that meself / with someone holding the brake (might park the car up against a wall first to help more), then bugger it.
(like i'm going to blow £25 on a weeks insurance to go have a garage do it, when it'll likely be off the road the rest of the week!)

So, have you managed to source a box yet?

nah, i want to figure out if i can either free the hubnuts or weedle the box out/in around them in-situ first (even if that amounts to just jacking it up and undoing them for a peek at the clearance) ..... rather than ending up with yet more junk that needs a place to live and causing aggro.
yes, i'm another casualty on the long-as-yer-arm "parents giving them sh*t about taking up all the room in the house with polo bits" list!
though my nan's had her garage cleaned out now (bye-bye to a couple of hideous 3 piece suites and an old piano, all totally rotten, amongst a pile of other stuff), almost all thats left in it is my old seats, so i may as well shift some more of the stuff in there for a couple months.... hmm..
