give vw a call to check. they might know where it's located. I can't see it in the haynes - perhaps the sensor from the door opening is messed up. you could fit an aftermarket one?

Mate, this has not been brought up in the post which i thought i might eventhough im sure you may have checked this  . If youre interior light is switched off, (i.e. not in the middle position in a post 1998 car) the headlight warning beeper doesnt beep. Therefore is you interior light in the centre position? i.e. when the door opens it lights up?

This is basically what my one does. as yesterday i switched the interior light of, and the beeper stopped working, ill switch back again today, and as far as i know it starts to work again.

Easy indication that your lights are still on... if the area in front of the car is well lit then double check that your headlights are off :P

I've never noticed my beeper going off or not tbh, it maybe due to me switching off my lights first as soon as I've parked.

from 5/97 on the beeper is in the dialsunit. the dialsunit gets the tense from the left light, from the right light, from the doorcontact (Minus when open) and 12Volts from the ignition lock (just when you puch your finger on it without the key..... so the most things which gets broken always is the contect from the ignition lock and the doorcontact. Very often the doorcontact breaks, the drivers doors contact has two contects in one body, one for the interieurlight and one for the beeper. does the contact for the light works?
Other big fault is always that the ignition lock especially has one contact only for this function which only is made for a few milliamperes and so often ppl connect other things with this contact.
Would you think you are able to demount your dialsunit?
Then i would tell you the connection pin assignment and how to find out which signal does not reach the dialsunit....i bet the ignition lock is broken cos you have connected some other s**t with this special contact.
do you think you can demount the dials?
then you just have to check two signals with a measuring device.
do you think youcan demount it?

Cheers

my interior light is fully functional and is always in the centre position so it cant be that. as for something else been connected to the ignition, as far as i am aware there is nothing as i certainly haven't touched it.
i dont really wanna be pulling my dash apart just for the sake of a warning buzzer, how easy is it????

thanks for the replies btw :D

Hey, we can try to find out on the poloshow....finding the fault is easy, but we only can find the fault, if a part is broken we can´t fix it straight on the show......

Cheers

right, as i said it does work in conjunction with the interior light. when i put my light back to the middle position this morning i had a little looksee. I found that when i had the door open, the headlight switch on, and then turned the interior light to the middle, it got a little stuck, i.e. it didnt make a noise. After leaving the door closed for a few mins the beeper came back.

im thinking its the door switch with yours. why dont you pick up another one from a local scrappy, im sure mk3 golf ones will be the same, and there are plenty in scrappies. it really wont cost much and there not hard to change
