correct, but you dont need to get the shocks to match, it'll just be nicer.

you can get spring / shock combos and they're about 250.

How hard would this be to do myself?
I guess I need to get shopping for some parts, also need to find out how much labour cost will be.

it'd be an hour and a half or two hours at a garage. you can do it yourself but you'll need a set of spring compressors to do the fronts safely.

Yup pretty much, you either get...

Just lowering springs...(£60 - £150)
or
A kit of uprated springs and shocks...(£160 - £400)
or
Coilovers (Springs already on shocks)...(Start at £400)


Just depends on you really...how much you want to spend, how long you're keeping the car etc. My coilovers were fitted @ mates rates but they're not hard to do as they come out the box already put together.

I'm on a budget at the moment. Would I be damaging the car in anyway by just fitting new, lowered springs like the Eibach Sportline Springs or will I just be sacrificing a little ride quality?

If you lower your car on standard shocks, it won't handle much better than standard, and your shocks will wear out very quickly. You can lower 40mm on standard shocks but they wont last very long, any lower will wear them out silly quick.

Is this stuff worth the money?
Im not sure what sort of budget to set, but idealy I'd like it done for about £300. Or am I pushing it.

Fits all models of the Polo Mk4 6N Hatch, lowers more than the 30mm kit as follows:

45-50F / 30-35R

the rear is not enough of a drop really... but will have a look on that site...


Its good to know 300 is a realistic budget... I got a mechanic that does stuff cheap but is fussy to what he does, need to pay him a visit..

Whats the difference between a 1998-2000 polo compared to 1996 polo. I thought all mk4's were the same.

then @ chap wit the silver valver (no names, sorry:S) i like the arch situation on your polo, same as mine really, dropped 50 on 16s, just on your sig looks pretty high at the front bumper... love the arches tho.

that's an exaggeration, and a bit snobbish - people who have the full kits usually say never to use standard shocks - but we don't all have ££££ to spend, very easy to say that when you have the full works! you'd never really need to replace shocks if you lower 25mm or so. the mk4 golf is a good example - it's a transformed car when lowered this amount on standard shocks.

it will handle better, and the shocks may give out sooner (this is true) - but I've run an 8v for 3 and a half years on oil filled standard shocks lowered 50mm. and the 16v has run for 2 years on oil-gas standard shocks. go figure!

my opinion is if you only have 100 odd quid to spend, get springs and then do the tracking. if the shocks give out then replace them when you need to. your car will handle many times better than standard, and it will be a bit harsh but that's a sacrifice.

that's the gti model (only made on the continent), so I guess that's why it says 1998-2000
