Why wouldn't you do fuel injection on an early/mid mk2? Anything technical, or just that you like to keep things original? Personally I'm all for keeping it original on the outside, but I'd rather my engine performs as efficiently as it can, and I just find carbs a pain in the backside really.. poor starting, awkward to tune, inefficient, just not really something I can be bothered with, so I'd much rather go for injection if there's not serious technical reason to avoid it.

Its just me being lazy GC. Its definatley worth it for all the reasons you mentioned. And the fact that yours is a facelift model is perfect licence to do it in my view. 8)

As for my derby I did contemplate GTing it, and I had all the bits, but the idea of a webber carb powered 1.4 seemed more appealing. Theres also a few more wiring difficulties with it being such an early one.

If you wan't piston rings, go to the dealers or Martyn at Vagparts. He was slightly cheaper, and worthwhile when included on a big order.

Ah, now that makes sense :D I can understand that.. but I just find the carb so frustrating that I think it'll be worth the effort. Providing it goes -reasonably- smoothly at least.. if I end up spending months on an engine swap again I'm just going to give up and get myself the scirocco that I've been thinking of for a while :lol:

Cheers, I'll bear that in mind, I didn't realise VAGparts could supply them.. thought they were a bit of a tricky part to get hold of.

Ive often had the same feelings about carbs, Especially pierburg ones (in general the solex ones are ok as theyre simpler and manual choke) although the one on my derby has been a bit troublesome, mainly due to vacuum leaks in one form or another. But now its all sorted it really flies, Its almost putting me off converting it. Im sure I'll change my tune again next time it goes wrong though. :oops:
