it will fail it's MOT and petrol comsumption will go up, loss in performance and it's very very loud which is a bad thing.

well it wont fail cos of no backbox but it would for being unsecure and loud its testers discretion

How so, I had a rover P6 V8 3.5 litre. I custom built the exhaust system (using peco parts), and didn't bother with a backbox, all the MOT station are looking for is a secure exhaust with no leaks, noise is to their discretion. Not having a backbox is not an MOT failure.
