Yup. All the 1.8T's are 4 cylinder. They're right across the vag group. I had one in my old passat - minus the turbo though :( .

Nope that's a 5V on the cover which means 5 valves per cylinder and it's a 4 cylinder unit. Which is why the 1.8T is sometimes known as a 1.8 20VT.

Modified Madness: that's 5V - as in 5 valves per cylinder.

Frazzle, you're right they did do a 180bhp in 99, but it was only in the Quattro version. Which i said earlier and it does do 0-60 in 7.3s.

However the 2WD models only had a 150bhp at that time.

Honestly i'm not going on about this out of badness, just saying so that Phil can sort his insurance and so as not to get a shock when the remap is done.

You never know it might make a huge gain. My mate's A4 1.8T 150bhp made 166bhp standard at a RR session. 8)

Phill get some photos of the engine, youll find out quick enough if its the s3 engine.
Sorry that's wrong too. The S3 is a 1.8T.

Older ones had 210bhp newer ones had 225bhp.

V5's are 2.3.
AHhhhhhh my bad.

What cars have the v5 in them?

Passat Golf and Bora have all had the V5 - seat have had it - not sure about audi.

Del, 160+ is a great gain on a standard setup. I take it the car has been well run in at that rate.

It's funny.... I have a saab and a polo and both forums i go on talk about the manufacturers being known for underestimating bhp - i've never known whether its true or more likely it's car enthusiasts being hopefull that they have a bit mor power than they really have. Polo's are supposed to be around 135 from what i've heard but it deosn't feel that powerful.

Anyway, I'm starting to hijack your thread phil. Lovely car - enjoy!

Is that the golfs badged v5 4motion or something then?

Wonder if anyone has ever put a v5 into a polo, better yet a charged one!

2.9/8 VRs have gone into Polos before, or is the v5 a bigger block?

Yeah serious post Hijack Phil, sorry mate. Post some new pics of it so we can drool.

Yeah his had done about 60-odd thousand miles.

Your right though most car's do make more than what manufacturers quote. My GTi made 132bhp standard. Some have made even more than that.

BTW the 4Motion models on the Golfs were V6's. They did do a 4Motion TDi in the Passat though.

Bloody hell - didn't know that - a 2.9 in a polo is a scary thought. The v5 is a 2.3 so at that rate there would be room for the turbo gubbins - though if you would ever consider spending that sort of money you'd be as well to just get a cupra and be done with it!

Its the same 1.8T 5V engine thats in the S3 mate, same engine codes but different remap.

Stock / Remapped

BHP :150 / 190-200

Torque ft/lb: 163 / 220-230

Its a different engine to the golf 1.8

Also, how can i check if its a quattro, because when i gave them the reg, they said it was 180bhp sport model?
