The design of the sub and type of box is what chanes the sound and feel of a sub, not the size.
I could show you a 8" sub that will drop lower than most of the 'top name' brands thats been mentioned here.
Size isn't everything, didn't your mother ever tell you that
I'm rating it on having installed both and felt that although the build quality of the Blaupunkt was fine as u mentioned, the sound quality didn't measure up to the Audiobahn.

yeh i know but the general rule seems to be the bigger the sub the lower the bass. ALTHOUGH as u mention there are SOME 8" that come outdo SOME 12"s - 18"s (in a poor box might i add)
im open to suggestions on a good 10" with low bass but im guessing theyll cost major ££££'s

Would it be within budget?
Sub design and box design/volume definately matters. But, for the money the guy is looking to spend the size of the sub plays a big part on how it will sound.

lol the sub itself is 150ish. im looking for a amp + sub (both) for 150ish. never mind.
although ive now been advised to go for a mono amp as oppose to a two channel one.
ive already got good headunit with 4x50w and uprated speakers so the quality is already good. now that i think about it a mono amp makes more sense as it can drive the sub only and the h/u can run the rest of the speakers.
Who's told you to get a mono amp?
They are normally more expensive and I see no reason at all why.
I have a 800wrms @ 4 ohms amp which is a 2 channel.
Does the job extremely well!
Why not go for the RE, it would match your music tastes great, then save a little extra and look out for a good quality used amp to go with it.
For the first time in 10 years I now have two new amps, and my sub and RE XXX mids were all bought new, but only because :
1) I got a discount
2) The were reduced also!
Every used audio equipment I have ever bought has been replaced because I saw something better, not because they were faulty.
So long as you buy wisely, used can be a great way into getting a fantastic budget system.
i know its above my budget but is it worth the money though?? i have heard mixed opinions on the alpine type r's. some say they are crap some say theyre good. anyone here got one of these??
ok been doing of lookin around and come across this amp. i knows it a bit outta my budget, but to me it seems very good value for money. anyone have it or know anything about it.
Not had that amp before, nor do I know anyone, but I still have my first ever Kenwood amp I bought in 1996!
Always pretty solid, but..
The power ratings are at 14.4v.
By the time your alternator has provided the power, sent it through your cable to your battery, through the battery to the fuse holder, through the cable to your amp, you'll be looking around 12.5v - 13v
This means you wont get the full RMS power they are quoting.
I had a couple of V12 Alpine amps (the better older ones) who were also guilty of quoting great power ratings at 14.4v.
My 4 ohm rated 600wrms amp, only put out 300wrms in real life.
Not saying not buy the amp because of this.
Just saying to be aware it wont be as powerful as described.
Oh, and one more thing, MOSFET power supplys are not great.
