Unfortunately, the Fabia vRS is just outside my budget. I hadn't planned to be getting another car after only just over a year - so money's tight. Can't really comment on the Fabia vRS as I haven;t driven one, only had a good look at one in a dealers. I know Josh holds them in high regard .

Unfortuately, the Octiva shares the same interior - half leather seats with the bases and back being white. Oh yes, and the carpet's white (or it was at one time...). The particualr car I looked at is a bit "rough round the edges" -- but that's just another barganing tool!

I do like the look of the current Accord - although the estate is a but of a botched job - the rear overhang is far too big for the wheelbase, but there you go.

Is the 2000 model the same version as the one they were racing in the BTCC, before the Civics? If so, that's also a nice car -- A Type R of that must be quite rare?

I say give both a test drive.

Having enjoyed the relaxed cruising abilities of the TDi it's more likely that I'd go for the newer Accord. It's a shame I can't afford the Diesel when it comes out, as with that engine is supposed to be the best on the market.

It's a shame that the VRS Skodas have white interior kind of spoils the sporting image, well done for who ever thought up that idea

So it's looking more like the Lupo or Octavia for you then!

I think I've ruled the Lupo out. I think. I know it would be so much more chuckable than the Octavia (which seems to be more just about speed than fun), but I'm finding it very hard to justify the cost for the small amount of car that you actually get. But it does make the best noise. But then its gearboxes go at 30k (looking in the PoloGTI forum). Hence my quandry.

It might actually be *cough* Octavia or £3k Megane... depending on how many pennies I can find in my piggy bank later tonight...

Deek.

do NOT go for a megane. the head gaskets blow after 5 or 6 years and they aren't built at all well. I bought a 1996 coupe last year and after two weeks the head blew . my friend had a hatchback and it's blew almost to the same month. they are rubbish french motors! sorry to be negative.

Get the Lupo GTi, for gods sake!!

But seriously. I don't think the gearboxes are that big an issue on the Polo/Lupo. I can only see three people having problems in the GTi forum and thats out of 4,000 cars remember...

Sod the practicality! Go for it!
