Over sensitive ABS sensor?

Just an update on my brakes.

The VW dealer checked the car and they say there is nothing wrong with it.
The ABS has no fault codes and that it is possible for it to react in the way described.
It is normal for the pedal to sink away sometimes. Something to do with emmisions when idling.
It is normal to be able to pump the pedal up until stiff with the engine running.
The braking efficientcy is as good as it is supposed to be. (CRAP )

and you have the exact same spec car as me! this is my 4th Visit to VW over this one now!!! Fed-up with it!!

It is really dangerous and has nearly caused me to have an accident on more than one occasion!!
But if i were to have a crash, VW will accept to liability for it!!

I have also sourced some independent advice on this, and apparently the brake discs and pads are actually only designed for the ABS to kick in 3 times in there life, after 3 ABS Shocks they are deemed useless.
Which would give me a reason for my brakes being very poor now!

Its booked back in again, just going to keep doing it until they get fed up of seeing me car, also, my rattle keeps re-appearing!

Do your brakes squeak every now and then? I'm getting that but very rarely and when coming up to traffic lights. Its really annoying.

I was painting the brakes red the other day and also noticed a LOT of rust on the disks. I might get some decent pads and disks.

The rear drums arent affected with ABS are they..? I've been ABS'ed about 6 times in 3 months of having the car..

I've just had my brakes checked due to constant squeaking - turned out to be glazed pads where they had heated up and cooled down too fast resulting in a smooth surface over the pad. Much better now though (VAGtech checked and did the work for free - top company - plug plug!!)

I spoke to them about Chris' over sensitive ABS and they think it could be a dirty wheel speed sensor which is located in the hub and may need the bearings replaced.

It is the air-conditioning pipe apparantly....
its a design fault and the two pipes rattle together, they keep stuffing bits of material between them and trailing cable ties all over the eng bay but it only works for a few days then it back to normal again!

Whats the original polo brake size? Or can I just buy the biggest one and it fits? (P.S. I dont know anything about brakes except how to paint them red )

Mine did it again the other day! This time just crawling over an iron rail for a sliding gate. i must have been doing 2mph and this rail is about 10mm high and 20mm wide. The pedal just kept on buzzing and i had no brakes until i let off and slammed them on again.

My dealer said it may be that the gap is not set right on one of the abs sensors where it looks at the toothed wheel. He will check it out this weekend when my car goes in for the dreaded suspension knock!

Funny mine is an SE too but a 1.4tdi.

John - you do realise that's what ABS does? It judders the pedal and doesn't sound nice but thats the noise they make doing their job of pumping the brakes on and off very very quick, allowing you to steer and and not skid.

edit - the reason it would have happened on the iron rail is the wheel probably couldn't gain grip. Surely if you were doing 2mph this wouldn't require you to slam on the brakes, either way ABS would have stopped you in a second at such a low speed?

Yes Dino i realise what abs does and accept that over a slippery steel surface it may activate briefly but only while the wheel is slipping. My point is that the judder continues to push your foot away long after you have passed the slippery bit.
Indeed at 2mph the car should have stopped with hardly any braking effort but it didnt. It just kept going with the pedal buzzing until i had rolled out onto the main road. Then i had to let go and reapply the brakes to make them work.
