The manifold varies from 1.8T to another, can be to do with engine bay space or routing to the intercooler, no real difference as far as I know, but I'm not up to date on my 1.8T's!!

Definitely visit foreign sites! The engine Col showed us is from a Dutch bloke, that's fitting a 225hp TT engine to a Mk2 Golf, complete with syncro AWD and lots of other goodies. Never hurts to look around, most foreign sites are in English anyway (Scandinavia, Holland, Belgium...).
Except for the German ones, obviously.

So is this car still cool if you know the story behind it? Apparantly, the guy farmed out everything done to this car, meaning engine, leather dash and seats, wheels, respray, the whole lot. Dad paid for everything. What's the use of modding a car when you do nothing yourself? Spoiled brat! What do you think?
The way I see it is this-
If like me you'd like something that is totally beyond your capabilities, the only way to get it done is by paying someone else to do it. I wouldn't have a clue how to stitch leather onto seats, install a 1.8T engine into a Polo, fit a stereo or anything. Besides I try these things and I just mess them up. When someone has a vision and they have the finances, then they'd like to see it realised. And that's just what this kid/guy has done. I suspect very few truly know how to do an engine transplant or any other mod of real skill so usually it's best to leave it to competent engineers.
If your dad's got the money then why not?
I'd love to see my Mk4 Golf on coilovers, with Compomotive CXN splits with angel eye headlights, but at the moment i'll have to wait until I have the money.
Besides, even if you do get the work done, if you pay for it yourself then it's ultimately more rewarding. But if you have your dad to pay for all of it, then you can get the car finished quicker!

Good point.
It's more jealousy than anything else, he's made a fantastic car and most of us (or me anyway) won't be able to build something that extreme anytime soon. And for that, I truly respect the guy.
If I had an external moneypit I'd probably use it as well. And you're right on the skills issue too, I can't respray my car, or do an engine conversion just yet. ICE isn't a problem though, but I've learned that from trying and making mistakes. If I had a second car and some cash, I would doing a conversion (or regular tuning) myself. But this is besides the point.
I'm just envious...
