Nice one. I'll keep my eyes open on eBay for a set. I also want to change the colour of the illumination bulbs by replacing the green filter with another colour, like a nice blue or something.

Thanks mate :D

What I would do is simply remove the bulb holder behind the instrument pannel. When this pops off, behind it is a strip of translucent green plastic. I could quite easy get hold of some translucent blue coloured celophane that would do the job nicely. Cut it to shape and there you go.

Like you say, it would look a bit odd with a blue instrument pannel and green dash controls, but I think it would be a much bigger job doing all of those. I'm gona try just doing the instrument pannel and see how it looks anyway. :)

the only problem with just replacing the coloured stripp is that the bulb isnt very bright is it? i know its for a reason, but if its blue id would look far better if it was a strong blue.

Probably, but celophane it quite see-through, so it would look quite bright. If you look at the green strip thats in the dash originally, it is quite opaque/translucent but still manages to illuminate the display quite adequately with a strong colour.

It would have a much better effect if the bulbs were blue, but I've never seen blue bulbs of this type.

I'll try it and let you know what kind of effect it produces.

i have never seen blue bulbs but i no that u can get a bulb paint! although i don't no if it would work as i think that the green stuff makes the light flow! if ya no wot i mean

Yeah, thats what has put me off for the moment. I think the green strip is of a material that will diffuse the light across the whole display, as you say. Cellophane may not produce the same effect, so I'm probably going to leave that idea for now. :) I'll just stick with getting the whole display illuminated for now :D

Right, that's sorted. The display lights up now and I can actually see what speed I'm doing when its dark!
However, I've noticed that the illumination bulb for the heater controls has blown :x , and it's a special bulb that's only obtainable from a VW specialist. I can't believe it took me so long to realise that I couldn't see the heater controls when it was dark :? must have only drove my car on warm nights
