To be honest I haven't had any problems with the standard jack before. I always change the alloys on my cars and usually use the standard jack and a decent torque wrench to just whip the wheels off and change them over.
But my saga gets worse!
After several more attempts with the OE jack tonight as I hate to be beaten(!) I wheeled out the trolley jack. Carefully (so as not to upset Dino

) protcted the wax with a bit of shag pile and jacked the little GTI beastie into the air. Finished removing the bolts carefully so as not to scratch the wheels. Gave the wheel a gentle tug to remove it from the spigot.....and nothing....pulled a bit harder....and nothing. Chocked the trolley jack up even better so it wouldn't roll no matter what and gave the wheel a couple of almighty tugs......and nothing! Blimmin thing has welded itself to the hub! Some things are not meant to be. So my new second hand 17'' alloys are now redundant and I'm going to have to get used to the girly 16s on the car.
Car now lovingly tucked up into bed in the garage, still on original wheels.....
