-less than 1.6
Why are people suggesting 1.8Ts or 1.9TDI? Both of which fail miserably on the spec.
and being 'unique' doesn't get you fast times in sprints or hillclimbs! FFS!
the longer i read this forum, the less i want to. most of the time i only log in to see what Jarno is up to.
Sorry for havin an opinion mate and he asked for 'sprint and hillclimb', I ain't seen any 1.4s or 1.6 8vs that'll be 'blindingly quick' at sprints! The only way to do that is spend alot of wad on a conversion, then spend even more just to get it running quicker. A bigger engine would sort that even though I agree it'll be heavy on hillclimbs. Always run with power_plants 1.6 whichs stripped out and got minor engine mods:- still not faster than my 1.4 16V let alone be good nuf for sprints or hillclimbs unless he put more power into it

when it comes to new engines people get all excited and started getting bigger and bigger ideas. More then anythign theyre commenting on what they want in theirs not what he should get in his.
We all know the best option is a GTI lump from the 6N. Fairly straight forward id imagine seeing as its the same chasis and all that as the 6N. Lots of people have done it and a good 16v engine is pretty tuneable. Like people say though the gearboxes are meant to be a bit shiz. But if youve got the money maybe you could fork out for another box from a different polo or something. Would a diesel gearbox fit? I know they do that to high powered turbo fords same principle with a polo maybe?

Yeh but the thing is he is probably running in a certain class that requires to be 1.6 or less......if he went a 1.9tdi or something, its likely he'd be in the 2.0litre class, then he'd be gettin absolutely raped by tuned scoobys and evo's etc so would drastically defeat the purpose! No one is sayin the GTI would be massively quick on a hill climb, but in a 6n and stipped out, it'll certainly give other 1.6's a massive run for there money! The GTI is defo the best option.

in that case if it has to be held in those categories then the GTi lump would be better than wot he was thinking. Your also right about the gearbox, they're crap on Polo's and the standard one he has would probably break from the stress of hillclimbs. Try finding a good gearbox for that one

you damn right it is lol.
Dont suppose you know if them lupo boxes fit the 8 valves aswell do you? I was told nearly all polo boxes from a 6N2 down have the same casing, so in theory should fit. Buggered if i know.
What i do know is someone on here or club polo had their GTI box replaced, when they got it back they found it had the casing of an 8valve and they got it changed to the GTI. SO therefore if the lupo gti fits the polo gti, and the 8 valve fits the gti then shouldnt it fit nicely onto my little beasty
We do hope so lol.

obviously it might change the gearing ratio's but how does it affect the car? Does it make its faster on accel or higher top speed?
I'd probably get it done next time cos I just changed the selector seal on my box this time around. Probably alot more $$$ then the 16v box right?

God knows i'm really not sure cos you would still only be able to rev to the same point like before.
@lemeph, yeh iv heard about that aswell, so yeh i would assume it would fit the 8v

I think.....if you have the earlier model of mk4 they have the same mounts as the mk3 so yeh it will go in if you have the earlier model.i wouldnt think a GT in a mk4 would be overly quick though. Its ok in a mk3 but in aa heavier car, im not so sure

Seeing as therese 6 gears i'd reckon each ones shorter giving quicker accel but a lower top speed unless it had longer gearing in which case slower accel but higher top end.
Couldn't tell unless someone noticed who's changed it to a lupo box already.
