this is car audio porn. believe me this amp is the bizness. will do 500wrms at 4ohm which is righty matched with your 2 subs. and will do 1200 at 1ohm for future use. and i will bet you any money that those figures are under-rated meaning in reality the amps probably kicking out 550-ish@4ohm & 1300+ @1ohm if i was on the lookout for an amp i would have snapped this up already. and a bargain considering it costs £500 new

dont think. buy NOW. lol. think later
WOW! that looks beastly! 1300 at 1ohm is amazing! you mentioned these will do 500 @ 4 ohm and iv checked CAD and it says they will do 870 @ 2ohm. As my subs are 4ohms dual cones, shouldnt I be looking at connecting them at 2ohms which gives it 870/2 which is 435wrms per sub?

nope. you have 2 x Dual4ohm subs. they can ONLY be wired to either 4ohm or 1ohm.

you need an amp that will power your subs sufficiently at either 4ohm or 1ohm. 2ohm is only gonna be useful to you if you get a 2 channel amp. that way each sub can be wired t each channel of the amp @ 2ohm.

confusing aint it?. like i say you need something that does good power at either 4ohm or 1ohm. the DLS does enough at 4ohm for you to run these subs. however it is also powerful enough to run other subs in the future as it does 870@2ohm and 1200@1ohm.

doesnt matter what brand you have, itll tell you how to wire the subs. (easier than trying to explain)

i assume your subs are dual4ohm each and not regular 4ohm subs?

Yeh it is confusing especially when someone has given me the wrong information before hand. Since last week iv been told to search for amp that is powerful at 2ohms because my subs are 4ohm and you half to half them or something so they get more power at 2ohms instead of at 4ohms. The bloke in the stereo shop didnt mention nothing either which was a waste of time.

Yeh Dual 4ohm each. That link is excellent.Clears everything up. Saved it in my favourites for future reference. Appreciate that. Thanks. Just need the damn amp now and some to wire it all up, might attempt it myself if it aint too complicated.

Who told you to look for an amp that gives out that power at 2 ohms?

The only amp you'd need for that would be a 2 channel like the one I've got feeding my fronts although that's 3 times your budget unfortunately, it's a great looking and performing amp :(

As ColourConcept has said, ideally you want a mono that gives decent power to each at either 1ohm or 4ohms, the only option for running them at 2ohms is a 2 channel amp.

A bloke who works in a car audio shop. Delibrately giving me bad advice since I bought the subs from a competitor of theres. Wan ***

Iv found a 800rms 1ohm Mono by diamond. might just get that one. atleast i get 400 rms to each sub which should do the trick dont you think?

Should be so long as (like ColourConcept said) it's setup properly, it's always worth getting an amp setup properly otherwise it can and will damage your equipment :D

Might just get it installed proffessionally then. Dont want anything to go wrong. I just thought it would be a good learning experience doing it myself but cant afford to jepordise my goods, maybe under supervision from someone who knows what theyre doing.

UPDATE!!!

Update!

Got a JL 500/1 for the subs along with a 4gauge wiring kit. This should do the trick shouldnt it?

Next question, attempt to install myself with some guidance from a friend who has done a few installs in his own car or pay £50 and have some one down the local audio shop do it for me?

Need to know asap! Cheers

IMHO it all depends on what you feel happiest doing.

Ok I paid and got everything wired up,cant see any wires apart from the amp. The bloke didnt tweek the amp up properly though and said I should play about with it and adjust it myself. I tried but theres too many options. I want it for optimal performance.

Anyone familiar with the JL 500/1 SLASH? What should i keep the gain on? and the other swithes too?
