edinburgh to manchester last weekend, left at 5.30am and got to manchester at 8.00am, 1 full tank of v-power exactly, return left at 8.30am and back at edinburgh for 11.00am

all just to pick up a set of alloys for my other polo, so 2 full tanks of v-power £90, with a very heavy right foot 120mph most of the way apart from the average speed camers for 5 miles at carlisle

Last week I got 450 miles to one tank - which is shocking for me, as its usually closer to 300.
Just shows what hours and hours of motorway driving continuosely does for ya

That's with the trip to Oxford and back which was mostly motorway, should have seen about 300!!
The car was driven hard on the way back, while I was following you and after you turned off

hi, this is my first post as ive had the polo gti for only a few weeks now. i commute 60 ish miles a day to norwich and i average between 400 - 430 miles per tank. have been using tesco premium for last 3 tanks, now trying normal stuff to see the differance. I dont drive stupidly fast but by no means slow either. havnt worked out the mpg, but thats pretty good and better than my previous vag cars. Easily does 225-250 ish miles when tank 1/2 used. was the main reason for getting the polo gti really as before i had a mk2 golf 16v and was too juicy (and lacked the creature comforts needed) for the commute to my new job. previous to that i had an audi a4 quattro sport (1.8t) which would do 390 ish miles to the tank but i think that was a 50l tank (average between 32-37 mpg on the computer i think). before that was my mk3 golf gti 8v which could be economical if driven booringly (think i remember getting 50 mpg on a trip once crawling along in a 30 mph jam).

by the way whats the calculation you do to get a mpg figure from a full tank (in litres) against a mileage figure?

work out how many litres you put in the tank (should say on receipt),
then work out how many gallons there are in there (divide the figure by 4.4),
then use your miles to tank figure and divide that by the amount of gallons!
example...
you did 350 to the tank, filled it up to the brim with 36 litres.
36 divided by 4.4 = 8.18 gallons
350 miles divided by 8.18 gallons = 42.7 mpg

That's what VW quote as the combined MPG for an R32
