i wasn't aiming the 130 comment at you,
the 130 top speed is a by-product of having a fast car. they build it primarily for the acceleration.
saying that, there's no reason why they can't limit it.
I can still see the argument. it's not designed to run at 130 from a warranty frame of mind. isn't the top speed 134 anyway?!

hang on, if the top speed is 134 then anything over 135 voids the warranty because the car is going past the designed top speed? perhaps it helps with people secretly remapping?

Just to clear something up, i'm not saying doing those speeds on the motorway is clever. When i looked at my speedo thats what i was doing - probably why i pulled away from the group of cars i was with. No excuse but it was 3 o'clock in the morning

Last August - stopped there to have a look around the museum on my way back from La Rochelle heading back to the Dunkerque.

I heard about this in the Seatcurpa.net forums...some guy brought in his Ibiza Cupra for service and when he came to collect his car got told by the servicemen that his warranty was void because of a ECU reading...all sorts of questions were asked at the time, one of them being what you've already said. Why? How? etc etc
I don't agree however, as a car is built specifically to do speeds safely, limits are there for a purpose and all that. But if you happened to do red line it once, doesn't mean your car isn't looked after...so to void a warranty is harsh! If the car is serviced/maintained properly, with the correct tyres & pressures, all fluids checked before hand...surely you shouldn't be punished to have to have a bit of fun *wink wink*

I can't see how they can void a warranty for doing a certain speed. For all VAG UK know you could have been on holiday in Germany on the Autobahn! If VW state that the car will do 132 mph then that's what you can do in it, give or take allowing for the usual variables.
I think what the ECU will log is if you have over-revved the car and this will void certain areas of your warranty which is fair enough.
There was another guy over on Cupranet a few years ago with a Cupra R bragging about how he drove it, then shortly afterwards blew the engine up. His friendly local dealer had a staff member that was registered on the site and strangely enough

they refused to fix it unless he coughed up a good few thousand quid to cover the costs that were invoked by the warranty voiding. I think it turned out that despite the bragging by the member it was actually registered in his Dad's name and Daddy wasn't amused!!!
I'm too used to driving Diesels anyway so rarely go much over 4000rpm!!!

I have driven my Polo GTI to 6200RPM while in 5th gear, the speedo needle was at about 235kph. I then reseted the avarage kilometers per hour on the onboard display which gave me a reading of 226kph true speed. I gues the error reading is about 5% because I was pulled over a while back by a traffic officer for doing 142kph while the speedo needle was on 150kph.

its more if you over-rev the engine not top speed, vauxhalls have it if you over rev the engine and this voids your warranty if the dealer tells the manufacturer, most dealers dont tell as they get good money out of a big engine rebuild so why shoot them selfs in the foot!

Mine been in 4 warranty recently and i topped 150+many times

(germany autobarn) and they never refused they just asked "has it been mapped" to which i replied "NO" whats a remap!!!!
