oh an i might be getting a bit confused with the alpine type r components state they are - RMS Power: 110W is that per speaker or for both speakers?

if it is for both speakers, then mine are stupidly overpowered
its 110W RMS per component pair,

so 110W RMS to the right tweeter and mid

110W RMS to the left tweeter and mid

oh cool that's a relief, otherwise i was going to go outside and turn the amp settings down  because they're still new and trying to keep the volume down for now, but can be so tempting at times to put the volume up :(

turn the powerflow to the comps down on the amp, then temptation is just that little bit further away 8)

Hehe, loving the amount of replies I'm getting :D

Thanks a lot for your input Tim...will see how funds look when it comes to getting the new setup. Say I wanted to run a sub in the future on the Alpine HU, could I just use an RCA splitter?

And can anyone comment on this amp:
http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product ... -21965.htm

Dunno why, but I always seem attracted to JBL stuff...seem good value for money. That amp could be used in the future to power a 250 - 300W sub along with the components.

Many thanks :D
Ash

yeh you can do that, that's what i was planning on doing, however that way you lose your sub settings on the HU (the HU doesnt recognise which amp is running the sub)

there is another way around it however which is much better (and what i've had done) unfortunately i cant remember what its called!!! (it's been a long day lol)

basically i came to the same problem, and was advised to take a different route, i think it was using the high frequency output instead? My mate knew more about it than i did, i took it a specialist and he agreed, if you ever come to it, give me a PM and i'll ring around and find out exactly what i had done!! but you can get around only having 1 pre-out AND keeping sub settings

that amps not bad, but won't be giving alot of power to your sub (if you were to get one)

I'd recommend sticking to getting something like that 2 channel alpine (previously mentioned), and if you ever want to get a sub get another amp for it!! it may seem like your saving money getting an amp now that can house a sub if need be, but when you come to it, you'll want more power for the sub so would be spending more!

any reason why you can't use the sub out from the Alpine HU, or isn't there one?

edit: obviously not! but I'd go for a HU with at least two pre-outs. you can get an amp with a high level input to put the speaker wires into instead of the RCA but they're not as good.

Was just wondering...do you have components in your 9n? If so, were the stock speakers riveted in and did you have to use an adaptor?

Cheers,
Ash :)

not yet, but I'm looking at some tomorrow morning.....

I'm sure I can make an adaptor without issues, but we'll see!

So...erm...sorry for bugging you all again!

Would this be a good choice of amp:

http://www.alphacaraudio.co.uk/ViewProd ... T_CODE=189

what about this one:
http://www.alphacaraudio.co.uk/ViewProd ... T_CODE=189

Again, just want to confirm 180W RMS through the 110W components won't blow them...

Comparing these two Alpines to this one Tim recommended yesterday:
http://www.alphacaraudio.co.uk/ViewProd ... T_CODE=189

The other two appear to be more powerful...The first one in particular seems to be a steal at that price!

Thanks for being so patient with me :D
Ash

PS: I couldn't go about mounting the amp on the underside of the parcel shelf could it? Not very keen on having to put some screws through the seats... :?

Do NOT worry about an amp that's too powerful.

It's underpowering that causes damage. too much power and you can turn it down but you're more likely to get a better signal to the speakers.

my amp is 200wrms while the components are 110wrms, so i'll let you know if they blow, which i'm sure they won't if you just turn the gain setting down

Yeh the first one looks good mate,

no no no!! i wouldn't do that, you cant mount an amp upside down, its constructed so the heat escapes through the top fins, turning it upside down would cause it to overheat big time!!

you could always make a fake wall on the side of your boot, and screw it to that? That was one of my plans before deciding to put it on the back of my seats

My amp is 300w RMS and my components are 150w RMS

That makes them do this

damn that's crazy amounts of excursion, but what do you expect it's RE audio  so how have you set the gain for them then? is it 300wrms or just above 150wrms? I still have to set it up properly, and don't know what to do really :?

I should imagine they're getting somwhere around the full power from the amp.

I had it all done professionally though so haven't touched the gain.
