well i finished the gearbox oil service after work yesterday (i needed some other tools) and all seems well, looks like i got away with my 'minor error' 
no clutch slipping what so ever! must have been lucky where the oil ran not contaminating any vital areas, maybe due to the angle of the car with the front up on stands?!. gear change is nice and smooth now too! and the engine is running nice and smoothly with the new castrol magnatec
