My release bearing started screaming a couple of weeks after it was newly fitted. That was a cheap kit though, which was soon replaced with the SACHs kit.

It doesn't so much sound like screeching or grinding... More like a set of keys rattling around inside the engine, from the bottom left. I noticed it happens when stationary, but also when moving in 1st and 2nd gears. So weird that it's happening since the box got a full recon and a brand new SACHS clutch. It's going back to the mechanic that worked on it this afternoon. Do you think they just didn't do it properly? Or that they fitted something faulty somewhere?
The bouncy accelleration is back too. I tried to accellerate in 4th from 2k to 3k and the car was not happy, neither were my passengers! Could this be caused by the tensioner failing? I still haven't had a chance to clean the throttle body as no-where in my town has any flippin carb-cleaner!!
cheers

yup, the noise that you're saying is like mine. does it in 1st and 2nd too. just hoping it isn't the inout shaft bearing loose/not seated cos i reckon that'd be a b***h

let me know how you get on, what the diagnosis is dude, be interesting to know as mines in on tues morning. i don't wanna get the car back wuth a new release bearing, yet still making the same noise. i'll personally castrate them if it does..... its £203 i could do without spendin lol

The garage looked at my car today. Said they couldn't hear anything?!

Anyway, the fitted the new cambelt ket and waterpump. Then I had a phonecall about 3:30, after I'd left work early to go pick the car up, telling me one of the "gearbox seals had gone" and it was leaking oil. They won't have the part until Tuesday at the earliest!!!! Argh, I'm so annoyed that I won't have my car over the bank holiday. How could that have happened? Did they fit it wrong? Or was it faulty? What's the deal? I'm getting really fed up now.

got the same problem matey... rattley clutch immediately after getting the clutch done.
took it back twice since then and on both occasions was told its nothing to worry about. Something to do with the clutch not having a dampening thingy-majig so it rattles. Aint got a clue to be honest but he did mention something like that....
Been driving around like this for past 6 months and no problems at all, it hasnt got worse - so i guess its just a annoyance rather than a problem... if you do find a solution let me know - i'll be taking mine back asap.

not being funny but i've paid over 600quid to obtain a rattly clutch, which never rattled before, so when it goes to vw next tuesday if it comes back with a rattle still.....i'll be keeping my 200 smackers lol. sheesh!!

Right, here’s a bit of an update on my car. It has been in the garage for the last two weeks now, I haven’t seen it at all since it went in for them to check that rattley sound that was coming from the transmission area. The mechanic explained that he couldn’t hear the noise

!?! But said he tightened a few things here and there and its OK. But, there was an oil leak from the gear box they reconned as one of the seals had failed?! Is that normal? What would have caused it to fail? Also, once he finally had the seal, after ordering the wrong one, TWICE, he said he was running it in and it kept mis-firing. VAGCOM said the crackshaft sensor had failed. It took a week for the wrong one to arrive, and today I’ve had a call that the second one they ordered is also the wrong one!!!!

ARGH! Two weeks without my car is killing me… Is it really that hard to find the correct parts? Apparently he’s going to stay till 8pm today to wait for the part to arrive and fit it. * Sigh *

OK, I’ll add another update to this thread in case anyone else has similar problems to me in the future. It’s now been almost a month since I last drove my car!!! I am getting really frustrated but have been in touch back and forth with the garage again the last two days. They fitted a new, correct cam shaft (I thought it was crank shaft previously) sensor, which apparently works fine. However, since fitting it they told me they have had a problem with the “immobiliser”???

I called them again the following day and they told me they were having “electrical difficulties” and being fairly sketchy, the mechanic who was working on my car left on holiday for a week later that day. I called them AGAIN yesterday and a new guy, who “specialises in electrics” said that he thinks the timing kit was fitted incorrectly and a valve somewhere is blowing rather than sucking?!?

Or vise versa, I can’t recall. He said he’s tested all the electrics and everything is fine, but when they turn the key nothing happens, its completely dead – he seems certain it’s not the ignition switch or barrel, and is going to confirm the timing setting with VW today, I’m waiting for a phonecall. Can someone please tell me this isn’t normal? How badly have I been messed around, there’s no way I’m paying for any of the work since the timing kit was “fitted”!!
