He would of had spitting oil because your supposed to use a breather filter along with the induction kit. When removing the original air box the breather hose must be either fitted with a Breather filter or a Oil catch tank.
Enclosed inductions are far better than the exposed cone types because they are less exposed to heat soak which means they engine is getting cold air rather than absorbing hot air from the engine. Cone filters are more effective when their positioned right next to the grill or behind the light rather than sitting next to the rocker cover.

I didn't have spitting oil, I just got rid of it before I did

and heat soak has been explained well above.

Car chav items include silly bodykits & spoilers, Neon Under lighting, Kenwood Sun Strips, Door decals, Lamdo doors etc
Induction kits cannot be included in that list.
You can't beat the sound of a BMC CDA, that gargle at low revs is awesome

I think all the guys trying to imply is that most chavy cars around his area have a stereotypical "Induction roar".Its the same story where i live, all of the 1.1 litre Citroen Sax's have the usual shopping list style stickers down the front wings,spoiler,primer grey body kits and an "Induction kit" noise thats all.Not that every person running an induction kit immediately becomes a chav because they do so.People with systems like a CDA and Viper enclosed kits normally understand the reason it's inclosed hence why they don't just buy a cheap £25 ripspeed jobby.

Not all induction kits are chavy. I.e the ones mentioned above are known to be good. How ever most people nowadays go for induction kits rather than even worrying about other things.
On top spec Cosworths C20 LETS, skylines and evos Induction kits are used because they need more air going in to the engine other wise they run lean. That's why they have to be done properly other wise you will loose power. A lot of people tend to cut corners with these Induction kits.
I'm just letting the guy know that if it's not done properly it's not worth it. As most people just bolt a new filter on bobs your uncle. I think there is no point of that. How ever if everything is done properly and you pay good money for the induction kit and you get a proper cold air feed then sure why not. A good induction mated with a nice exhaust system could make your car sound nice.
