Sorry to bring up a old topic guys,

im planning to do the above to my 9n3 gti, i was wondering where the best place to get the intercooler from is? if you get it from SEAT its £350 then you add the £200 for the forge piping which comes to £550, the forge ones only £560 lol.

In short is there anywhere that sells the intercoolers at a sensible price? really struggling to find one, dont mind if its second hand so long as its ok condition.

Cheers

Forge is more expensive but not better.
i have seen testresults and you actually get powerloss if you put on the Forge IC.
only thing that thing is good for is eliminating heat soak, thats it...
they have flow problems, so better use the stock SMIC instead or just get a Seat sport IC or something else.
Motorcade has a front mount to, but it's looks crappy imho...

I have the forge one on my gt rolling with hybrid turbo and they said there is no difference the forge one forces the air down to the bottom to allow it to cool better. Which is why it is better at eliminating heat soak. It thicker than the seat one too there is no power difference at all

Do you have proof that the SEAT one is better than the Forge one on the Polo mate?

I know the SEAT Sport IC on the Ibiza's is better than the Forge one for the Ibiza, due to the pipework.

But I'm not so sure the SEAT one is better on the Polo than the Forge one, you're more than welcome to prove me wrong though.

Either way, get rid of the side mounted one!

First off all, i diddn't do the test myself, but i've seen the testresults.
i think i can get a copy if you want.
and i also have seen testresults from a seat IC a couple of times, but this is commonly known that they are good.
and you are wrong and right...
seat IC is good, evenly good for the polo as for the seat. (seen the Cupra D IC alot of times on the 1.8t versions from the ibiza aswell)
same cars btw, same engines, same platform...
but the piping from seat SUCKS big time!!
use aftermarket material or the piping from Forge made for that kit.
the intake side of the seat IC piping is flattend and made out of plastic.
not that plastic is bad, but the flattend part is useless... flow is totally deformed so it's not ideal.

i'll see what i can find about those tests.

and about the Forge IC is thicker.
it elliminates heatsoak evenly good as the Seat one.
seat has more cooling volume.
but it's the max for what a K03s turbo an flow, go bigger and you will loose HP with that turbo.
the part that i don't like is the part that the Forge one takes HP away istead of gaining HP... :|

Yeah I've seen the tests Turbomier, you're correct.

You're also correct that the Forge pipework is much better than Seats for the Seat Sport IC.

I think the kit (using Seat Sports IC and Forge's pipework) comes in somewhere around £450, it only cost me £500 for a brand new Forge FMIC, which was specifically designed for the Polo GTI. I'm not saying it is better, I just like knowing it was designed specifically to work on my car.

The test shows the car with the Forge FMIC does indeed lose power compared to when it had the SMIC, wasn't it only like 1-2bhp though? I don't think that is really noticable on the road, however it doesn't really add anything to the appeal of the Forge one!

Was the test carried out on a completely stock GTI, I can't remember. If it was standard then it may be a different story when it is fitted along with Stage 2 software plus all of the supporting hardware?

Either way, I'm very happy with my Forge one.

PS. I hate being able to see the Seat Sport IC behind the upper grille on the Polo's aswell, make it look crap, lol.

spray the cupra IC black and you won't see anything from it

and you are right about the power loss.
it was about 2Kw it lost.
not much or noticeable, but it's not the purpose of a IC to take power away.
and i believe also it was tested on a stock car, not 100% sure of this...
but that won't be any better after the car is mapped i recon, you will have more pressure so you need somthing to flow better, not worse.

for the seat one, i've seen more than a dosen of those on a 1.8T engine.
works great!
and i know they also gain power on a stock car aswell.
my car had 161Hp full stock,
with Milltek exhaust and K&N airfilter it had 167Hp
now with Milltek, K&N filter and Seat sport IC it had 175Hp (measured on a verry hot day also)
next month there is a dynoday and maybe i will be participating, so there might be some more power under the bonnet as the temp. is more "normal"
