By this do you literally mean sparkplugs that operate at a lower temerature?Turbomier wrote:also colder spark plugs will be needed. ( normally this is allready needed when you just remap the car, many people don't know it)
Any suggestions, part number ect?
Cheers

from turbomeiers epic saga
''-Spark plugs, get the same type from a Audi S2, they are a bit colder and are perfect for tuned 1.8T's.''

Re: K04 Turbo
Just to add 2 cents,
I am not sure what sort of money you want to throw at the car. If you want to beat your friend at the track, go to track for practise and learn how the car behaves in current setup. It's the driver that makes the biggest difference.
Suspension will make a huge difference as well as by having an LSD. I have Stage 2 REVO currently, and pretty happy with it. Polos are light and quite agile - quite like the Mk1 Golf GTIs, except now with turbo it has heaps more power and torque.
The power rating you are quoting at flywheel - is never going to be accurate for comparison. I do understand with K03s, the limit will be approx 200hp at wheels. I am hoping that my car is at the power currently. Flywheel conversion - depends on what % transmission loss you count at.
Going to REVO Stage 1 to Stage 2 makes some difference, so I say try that first as all 'prerequisits' actually add more power to the car as you mod through.
I would say if you want to beat your friend at the track
1) REVO stage2 with FMIC (also will depend on the weather and temp, if you are going cooler weather, side mount will suffice)
2) Brake upgrades including pad / fluid / lines (these make big difference already to start)
3) Suspension (shock/springs or coil overs), sway bars, front strut etc.
4) Good set of tyres (I mean good)
5) LSD Quaiff or Peloquine
6) Good quality oil / fuel.
You can also start doing weight reductions, but you really need to approach this carefully as unbalanced weight loss (such as removing spare wheel) will only make the car twitchier at corners and break the balance. Light wheels would be a good start (as it will lose weight all around). You can even do with a lighter battery and relocate it to the boot, then you will have more space for the cold air intake passage.
This is the way to win the game, improve kg/hp, better brake, better grip, and better driver.
Hope I didn't sound like a dick, but it just sounded like you are chasing power only, it's not a drag race.

Re: K04 Turbo
Hi Insane kiwi
Thanks for the advice.
I understand its not about just power power power. its been proven many times.
Unfortunatly im not prepared to start slapping coilovers and things on my car, I have had to many cars that have been tuned for performance and not comfort. call me an old man but im sick of avoiding bumps in roads, on a track theyre great but every day driving is ruined by hard suspension.
british roads are at a terrible standard.
I want to avoid over modding the car so it will look like a ''modiyed car'' I dont want that look, if i could hide everything away i would, the polo has class and i dont want to take that away.
I understand your opinion and would love to do it but i dont think the polo is the right car to pull apart and stick lightweight things on.
Thanks for the advice.

thanks or the comments, happy to help
but, you're not going to upgrade the suspension?
if you are going over 200Hp it becomes a must, the car is going to need the stiffness to drive good and stable.
stock suspension is to much set for comfort and hangs over to much in corners, and at higher speeds, it's a bit unstable
i once knew a guy that have had a Cupra with 220Hp, stock suspension.
was dragracing a porsche carerra.
they were going fast and came to a bridge that goes over a railroad.
so where the bridge starts to go a bit uphill there was a uneven roadbump as there are many enough.
and it would not be dangerous at normal speeds but @ +150Km/u it may get a car out of balance a bit.
the 2 guys were going about 200Km/u...
when the cupra comes at the bridge and over the roadbump, he lost control and drove off next to the bridge.
15m drop with 200Km/u right in the side on a trainwagon that wa standing still.
it's a wonder they guy in the cupra survived. but he had severe injuries and lives like a plant now...
the guy in the porsche took off without looking back
so believe me when i say, yes, suspension is verry verry important when it comes to power increase.
it goes side by side...

I do like wolf in sheep's clothing too. My car only thing you can tell from outside is that it has 17" RS4 replica wheels (with 38 offset) and bigger exhaust outlets. Also obviously it sits lower than standard car. If you look around underneath, you might see the rear sway bar from the back. That's about it. If I really want to I could go with factory wheels (which I do like and have still kept them in the garage) and some spacers. You can keep the car looking as stock as you can.
The car comes out the factory 'balanced'. If you start modifying one side, you will need to start modifying the other bits to make the car safe. More power means that you need more 'control' and more 'brake'. You will need to work on all aspects of the car when you start modifying it. Otherwise, you could make it real dangerous, especially on the 'ring'.
It's your car at the end of the day, but when we are taking K04 turbo, you do need to do 'all other bits' to get the best out of it. Hope you win the race.
Re: K04 Turbo
could not said it better.
but it's not only with K04, a tuned K03s with +200Hp is more than reason enough to upgrade the suspenion and brakes.
i'm not saying it will be going wrong, but it could be.
but when it goes wrong, it will be going wrong damn hard...
so it's the owners choise what he will be upgrading and what not, question is, at what risk we want to drive around in.
we are just here to give advice and tell us our experiances.
it's up to you if you take the advice or not
succes either way!

Re: K04 Turbo
I do understand where your coming from completly.
I do intend to use the bigger TT 225 brakes or somekind of brake upgrade. But i really really dont want to have the horrible stiff ride that I was used to on my previous GTI (6n2) and my previous saxo VTS, It drives me insane with bumps and cracks in the road feeling like im going off road. if there is a middle alternative giving me comfort and good handling then I would be happy to take advice on that!
any ideas?

Re: K04 Turbo
Maybe a spring and dampers kit with just a fixed drop, like -30mm
That's what I'd look at if I didn't have coilovers (infact I've actually looked at changing my coilovers for a fixed drop spring/damper kit)

Re: K04 Turbo
I would want to experience them in someone elses car already fitted before i bought anything. I dont want to waste my money by sticking them on then tkaing them off 5 mins later becasue of the ride
Anyone want to take me for a drive!!! haha
