I'm in a similar situation so I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the changes you make. I have a VX for the twistys/occasional trackday and a trusty Polo (1.4CL 6n) for everything else.
I've been running the Polo for 10 years and it's standard apart from some recently fitted Mk3 Golf leather seats (very comfortable). Recently i've been tempted to do a suspension refresh so will be looking at the ARB options combined with some new suspension.
