Its hard to say. It could well scrub. RXs are a 7J wheel so are wider than RX2s in the same size, so you may have issues there.

Its recommended to replace the nuts as they are self locking one time use - not particularly expensive, and worthwhile from a safety point of view.

Picking it up this week and will attempt to fit myself too.. Any advice before I go ahead? Haynes manual says I should replace the nuts with new ones? Is that true?

Also I'm looking at sourcing some BBS RX (I) 16' with ET35 offset. I assumed that would be perfectly fine (running on 195/40's) but reading the above comments.. can I expect some issues then???
I would change the bushes as you are on the way. will like to see some pictures when it is fitted mate as I am interested in lowering on that set up

Alex, thanks for that - I didn't realise at all that the RXI was a 7j wheel..

So ET35, the max width should be 6.5j right?

Looks like I need 15' RX2's then..

Regarding the locking nuts, is that a dealer only part?

It's not really about whether wheels are 15, 16 or even 17' - it's all about wheel width and offset.

I looked into this recently for the Polo and the consensus is that a maximum of 6.5' wheel width coupled with around ET40 offset will be a safe bet and you can go almost as low as you want.

There aren't many or possibly any aftermarket wheels available in such a high offset that are 16' and have a width of 6.5 inches.

What you can do is look at OEM wheels from something like a BMW Mini or Rover/MG ZR that are 16' and probably 6-6.5' wide. Their offsets are probably fine too as they're OEM and designed to stay tucked in.

The only issue you're likely to have is the centre bore which will need to be machined out by a few mm to the 57.1mm required for the Polo hub.

Hope that helps.

The H&R 60/40 kit is ready and waiting to be fitted. Cant wait to get it done. Also the prospect of getting some new 15'' Cades Eros with black centres should make the car look good. Plus a new GTi rear spoiler that needs to be painted and fitted.

Thanks for the word up Alan :)

I'm definately getting me a "H&R Cup KIT 60/40" :P

Is it right to asume that the wheels are 7X16" ET35? But what size tires are you running on them?
