Right well a slight update: Drivers wheel bearing was pressed in, hub all back together.

Issue 1: Tracking is completely w**k- just wondering how this occurs if the Track rod doesnt move in and out when disconnected :?: I will get it properly tracked when coilies are on, does anyone know quick ways to make the wheels straight in the meantime ?

Issue 2: The grinding noise is STILL THERE, abit not as bad as it was.Its worse at 25mph- do wheel bearings tend to go in pairs?

Not normally....

In fact, they rarely fail

Can you describe the grinding noise in more detail?

At high speed on quiet tarmac it's like a constant whirring noise, consistant with the wheels turning round.

At low speed ( 20 MPH) and applying the brakes at that speed it makes a grinding noise that you can feel through the seat and pedals. It does it in neutral aswell.

Sounds like the noise the brakes make when they have light surface rust on them kind of.

That doesnt sound like wheel bearings.

Have you got any clicking or increased noise when cornering?

Can you get a recording? lol

Nope no clicking or more noise when cornering.. May see if i can get a recording- think the noise is too low pitch for it to come out very well.

What are the normal characteristics of a shagged wheel bearing? I thought it was my exact symptoms lol.

Not sure what else it could be? Either, wheel bearing, driveshaft, brake pads ( altohugh they are pretty new along with the discs) I possibly thoguht warped discs but then i'd presumably get steering wheel wobble too?

Reckon if i jack the front of the car up and get the wheels going at low speed with the engine will show anything up?

Id try that Joe. Up on axle stands of course ;)

Wheel bearing makes like a droning noise instead of a grinding and isnt affected by breaking. Could be a stone stuck in the dust shield for the brake disk?

So after the wheel bearing replacment failing to cure the griding noise, i decided to go down to my local tyre fitters, get the tyres off and start rubbing down the horrendous corroded lips.....

Cheers guys, Emma: i think they were more surprised at the amount of time (about 15 hours?) overall i spent doing them! :)

Anyway the lips are finally finished, im pretty happy with the result. There was an unbelivable amount of pitting which was so hard to get out. Some of it still remains and they are by no means blemish free but i figured the minute i drive up my road they'll be pitted, scratched all over again :P

And after :D

That's some serious dedication there, wish I had that kind of motivation to do mine lol

Great Job though mate, look forward to seeing what you do with the centres

You've just made this really tempting for me to have a go at... My lips were painted just last summer but the polished lip looks so much better IMO. My centres have also started to corrode again unfortunately :( not enough prep work went in to mine methinks.

Really loving the progress on this so far Joe :) Excited to see how it'll turn out
