DSG is not for everyone to be honest and after having it in our last car for 3 years and having problem after problem towards the last year of ownership I would not go back! When it's working it's a great invention but not worth the hassle in my opinion. shame they did not give the option in the new GTI for a 6 speed manual.

That is a shame as it has now tainted your experience of it. I have not had any issues with my last 3 cars with it fitted and would not choose a regular manual over DSG ever, it is the best of both manual and auto. I think VW are right in not offering a manual in the GTI, it's the future. :D

I get that DSG is a very clever bit of kit, I just don't really like the idea of it. This isn't purely because I don't have it. There's a video, think it was by Autocar, where they reviewed a DSG Golf R and a manual one back to back. The DSG one did 0-62mph in exactly the manufacturer time over and over again, whereas the tester couldn't get the manual one to be either consistent or match the quoted time. Was a couple of tenths off IIRC.

It is for this reason that I like the idea of a manual more. If you want to go quickly for minimal effort, DSG is great, but personally I'd save the cash and by a ticket on a Boeing 747 instead. You get a holiday at the end as well lol. I'd rather go quickly because I've got it right, not a computer. Makes it more of an event and I'd trade the effort of heavy traffic in a manual for the open road aspect over an auto box any day of the week.

Going back to the 9N3 v. 6R debate. I wish the 9N3 had a 6 speed box but I prefer the overall package of the car to the 6R. Black 9N3's are fastest anyway 8)
This can only end with a race. How much power is yours putting out now Yorks?

Yes I have seen this Golf R test and agree with the presenter it is the best option for a Golf R. I have been fortunate to have driven both over extended test drives and the DSG equipped car is better. You can really only say if you like DSG once you have had one for a while and got used to it otherwise it is just an opinion. It is the best gearbox ever fitted to a road car even a Bugatti Veyron has DSG. I have never driven a 9n3 so can't comment but the Polo has never appealed to me until the 6r (always has Golf GTI's before) and I really like it because of the styling, quality, refinement, bigger car feel, power and the way it drives with DSG :D don't get me wrong I still like manual but it is slower and feels agricultural in comparison.
